Overall requirement of this position is to have working knowledge of GPS receivers and other GPS hardware and software. Accurately collect utility and other infrastructure data with GPS hardware and mobile software solutions. You will work primarily in outdoor environments, ensuring accurate and reliable GPS data collection while adhering to safety protocols and industry standards. Capture as-built records and GPS data in the field and communicate with various departments to ensure completion and accuracy of projects and tasks. This position will work with the GIS Administrator Supervisor for data uploads and review requirements. Reports directly to the Director of Engineering.
- Calibrate GPS devices and verify accuracy by performing field tests and comparing results with known reference points.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of GPS hardware and software to ensure proper functioning and reliability in the field.
- Directly capture appropriate GPS points for pipeline infrastructure such main/fittings (location, depth, manufacturer, size, type, other info) and services (tap location, EFV) being installed.
- Performs project field verifications, measurements and sketches as needed. Responsible for GIS project data and GPS collection files.
- Incorporates field obtained GPS data into the mapping system. Locates and tracks key field data points (valves, stations, mains, services etc.) utilizing handheld GPS equipment.
- Provide assessment prior to collection to include number of points collected, layers to be developed, level of mapping detail, scheduling, estimated time of completion and cost breakdown.
- Ability to locate gas lines for certain YCNGA facilities operating at 60 psi and less.
- Continues to investigate and utilize advanced technologies for better data capturing and management processes.
- Performs other duties as required. The above duties are performed for PEG facilities as necessary.
This position required working hours exclusively outdoors in variety of weather conditions. Safety is mandatory – must be able to wear a head hat, safety vest, safety glasses and safety-toed boots. Be able to maintain survey equipment and transport. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker may be subject to adverse environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
- Preferred thorough knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCADâ for Windows and related Windows based software
- Proficient knowledge of GPS hardware/software technologies including Trimble and ESRI
- General knowledge of procedures related to the installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities
- Ability to prepare work orders and related reports
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams
- Ability to read and interpret topographic surveys, project drawings and other project related documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in the field.
- A high school diploma is required. Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in surveying, geomatics, or related field is preferred.
- Natural gas industry experience preferred.
- At least one-year experience in GPS field data collection projects and/or surveying experience.
- ESRI, digital mapping, GIS and CAD experience preferred.
- Must be local. No relocation provided.
- A minimum of 30 days will be through our preferred temporary agency.
