Coordinates logistics and related activities for the physical ship and receiving of Vicwest raw material, supplies and products in accordance with policies, principles and procedures established by Vicwest. Scope of responsibilities may include:
Major Responsibilities
•Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations in compliance with current legislative requirements under OHSA and WSIB
•Coordinates the activities concerned with documentation and routing of outgoing/incoming freight or shipment of goods as scheduled.
•Interfaces with sales, planning and production to ensure timely and accurate shipping loads.
•Organizes truck routes and prepaid shipments to obtain the lowest freight cost without compromising service.
•Inspects and verifies incoming goods against purchase orders and packing slips, record shortages, damaged goods, and reports such to the Inventory Controller
•Participates in Operations Sales Meetings.
•Ensures all record keeping, data entry, and shipping/receiving documents are complete and accurate.
•Assign tasks to department employees as required to meet objectives.
•Accrual and approval of freight invoices.
•Ensures that all information required for month end is processed in a timely manner.
•Determine the cause of damaged freight and initiate the freight claims process where carrier is at fault.
•Develop and implement weekly route schedules for Western Canada.
•Ensures all truck drivers and customers that arrive in the shipping area are treated in a timely, courteous manner as well as made aware of safety requirements.
•Resolve work problems, provide advice, and recommend measures to improve productivity and customer service.
•Prepare and submit reports.
•Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
•Experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred.
•Solid Computer Skills: MS Word, E-mail, and Excel.
•SAP experience is an asset but not necessary.
•Previous shipping department leadership responsibilities.
Scope
•Supervises the shipping activities for the region.
