The Human Resources Specialist supports day-to-day HR operations and plays a key role in maintaining an organized, compliant, and well-supported workforce. This position partners with employees, managers, and cross-functional teams to support hiring, onboarding, benefits administration, workers’ compensation coordination, and personnel records. The role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Support the full recruitment lifecycle, including job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and hiring documentation.
- Coordinate onboarding activities, including HRIS entry, I-9 and tax verification, benefits enrollment, and new hire setup.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to onboarding, benefits, and general HR processes.
- Maintain accurate, confidential personnel records and ensure audit readiness.
- Assist with workers’ compensation claims by collecting documentation, submitting claims, and tracking follow-up actions.
- Support union payroll documentation and reporting in coordination with Finance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and provide guidance on HR policies and procedures.
- Track HR-related equipment and access (e.g., laptops, phones, badges, safety gear) in coordination with IT and Operations.
- Collaborate with department leaders to align HR activities with staffing needs and organizational priorities.
- Experience in human resources or administrative support within a professional business environment.
- Working knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Customer-focused mindset with clear, professional communication skills.
- Experience using HRIS platforms such as ADP or comparable systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- SHRM certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now.
- Experience supporting unionized workforces or union payroll processes.
- Familiarity with workers’ compensation procedures and safety-related documentation.
