Position summary
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and tooling, with a strong emphasis on thermal processes and heat treatment. This role requires extensive use of SolidWorks to create and refine 3D models and technical drawings for products used in manufacturing or aerospace environments.
- Design and modeling: Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D technical drawings for mechanical components and manufacturing tools, such as fixtures, jigs, and dies, using SolidWorks.
- Heat treatment expertise: Specify and design components that require heat treatment, applying an in-depth understanding of material properties, processes (e.g., annealing, quenching, tempering), and their effects on component performance and reliability.
- Analysis and simulation: Conduct engineering analysis to validate and optimize designs, using tools like SolidWorks Simulation to perform thermal, stress, and flow analysis.
- Tooling design: Develop and implement designs for manufacturing tools and equipment, focusing on design for manufacturability (DFM) and overall production efficiency.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering change requests (ECRs), and technical reports.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and sales, to ensure designs meet customer specifications and production requirements.
- Testing and prototyping: Assist in the fabrication and testing of prototypes, collecting and analyzing data to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.
- Supplier communication: Interface with suppliers and vendors to specify component requirements and ensure all materials and parts meet design and quality standards.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of X years of experience in mechanical design or tool design, with direct experience in heat treatment applications.
- SolidWorks proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in SolidWorks 3D modeling, assembly, and 2D drafting. Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification is often preferred.
- Thermal knowledge: Strong understanding of heat transfer principles and material science related to heat treatment.
- Analytical skills: Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or other FEA/CFD software for design validation.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
- Problem-solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot design flaws, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
