This is a Full-time Non-Union position. The Educator reports to the Waste Reduction Coordinator and is responsible for ensuring effective education of the residents and businesses in Pictou County on the Provincial Solid Waste Management Regulations and Municipal By-Laws. You have the skills to educate the effective promotion of environmentally friendly waste management practices and carry out the duties set out in the Education Contract between Divert NS and Pictou County Solid Waste.
Responsibilities
Arrange and deliver waste reduction presentations at schools, community groups, businesses and displays as well as conduct site tours at the waste management facility.
Create new and impactful ways of reducing waste through education and awareness.
Visit Industrial, Commercial and Institutional waste generators in Pictou County to educate and ensure compliance with the Provincial Solid Waste Regulations and Municipal By-Laws.
Conduct waste audits at the Transfer Station, Industrial Commercial & Institution sector and at the curbside.
Arrange and attend special events such as Waste Reduction Week events, markets, and fairs, as set out through the Divert NS Education Contract.
Attend Divert NS Regional Educational meetings, Professional Development Workshops, and other committee meetings, as required.
Design content and manage social media posts using Loomly for Facebook, Twitter (X) and Instagram.
Update and manage the Pictou County Solid Waste Management and the Go Clean Get Green website.
Update ReCollect, the online collection calendar software and app.
Coordinate the annual Go Clean Get Green Litter Initiative and manage the Go Clean Get Green website and social media pages, Facebook, Twitter (X) and Instagram.
Promptly respond to inquiries from residents via email, phone, website and social media.
Participate on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee as the Secretary.
Qualifications
Post Secondary degree or diploma in education, communications, public relations, environmental science or related field.
Knowledge and interest in overall Waste Reduction Programs and Environmental Issues.
Working knowledge in programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Canva.
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as required.
Exceptional in Social media content design and management.
Ability to problem solve and effectively deal with difficult situations and/or individuals.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Knowledge of safe work practices in an industrial setting.
