We are looking for an experienced Mine Geologist to support the continued development and the safe execution of construction and operations of our Hammerdown Project near King’s Point, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Hammerdown Project is an open pit gold mining operation, which will supply run of mine feed to our operating Pine Cove mill, located approximately 100km from Hammerdown, near the town of Ming’s Bight on the Baie Verte peninsula.
Reporting to the Chief Mine Geologist, the Mine Geologist is responsible for ensuring accurate delineation of ore and waste within the mine, supporting daily production through geological mapping, sampling, data interpretation, and communication with operations. This role is critical in maintaining ore quality and maximizing resource recovery while minimizing dilution and loss
As a Mine Geologist, you’ll be part of a dynamic team. Your responsibilities will include:
· Conduct daily pit mapping, sampling, and geological logging to define ore boundaries and lithological variations.
· Supervise and ensure the quality of grade control drilling, sampling, and data collection programs.
· Validate assay results and update geological models with current production data.
· Work closely with mine engineers and production teams to communicate ore mark-outs and ensure adherence to ore extraction plans.
· Prepare and maintain grade control maps, plans, and digital records in geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine, Surpac).
· Monitor ore stockpiles and assist with ore blending strategies to maintain mill feed consistency.
· Contribute to short-term reconciliation between predicted and actual mined grades.
· Ensure safe work practices are followed and that all geological field activities comply with site safety standards and procedures.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to grade control, sampling accuracy, and data management.
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field.
· Minimum 2–5 years of experience in open-pit mining operations (gold or base metals preferred).
· Proficiency in geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, Surpac, Datamine) and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Familiarity with QA/QC procedures for sampling and assay data.
· Strong understanding of mining methods, orebody geology, and mineralization controls.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to work in remote site conditions.
· Ability to positively interact with co-workers and team members.
· Able to work flexible hours as needed.
Benefits of this Opportunity: We believe in rewarding our team for their hard work and dedication. Here’s what you can expect:
