The Power Market Analyst will perform research and data analysis to provide insights to the organization regarding market trends and serve as primary coordinator for RFPs and executive leadership presentations.
- Identify and evaluate the implications of major trends and developments in energy markets based on development of market intelligence.
- Maintain and develop tools and techniques to identify market opportunities and enhance the quality of sales tracking and forecasting.
- Conduct various types of in-depth analyses on market dynamics to inform strategy.
- Model energy pricing adjustments to demonstrate the impact of pricing changes on organizational performance.
- Consolidate regional energy and coal market views and other observations into commercially actionable insights delivered both reactively and proactively to provide backup support.
- Expand contacts both internally and externally to improve the quality of timelines of natural gas, coal and energy intelligence.
- Maintain positive relationships with external consultants and leverage the information and analysis that they provide to maximize productivity in supporting the company.
- Serve as a go-to individual for market knowledge and analysis needs in the North American region covering the U.S. and Canada.
- Support business development efforts through research, data analysis, utilization of industry tools and customer engagements.
- Collaborate with executives and NTEC stakeholders on energy proposal development and submittal, implement special projects, primarily through data analysis and visualization and project economic modeling and support project origination activities.
- Continually observe and make improvement recommendations on the appropriate risk approach as the business grows and the market evolves.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or finance and a minimum of 5 years of experience in power flow modeling and/or market forecasting.
- Solid understanding of energy supply fundamentals, in both domestic and international markets
- Proven experience working on dynamic analytical teams focused on rapid and accurate creation of models, views, and custom applications.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously and have strong organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to research, collect, and analyze data relating to current and predicted energy market conditions to recommend pricing strategies and guidelines.
- Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness along with attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills
- Proven experience analyzing marketing metrics for identifying effect-cause relationships between financial outcomes and marketing actions to raise profitability.
- Proven experience analyzing financial information to produce forecasts of business, industry, and economic conditions for use in making investment decisions.
- Academic background in a quantitative field such as Mathematics or Statistics
- Experience analyzing electricity or other commodity markets is a plus
- Experience managing and reporting on financial risk
- Strong analytical skills coupled with an ability to think strategically
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility to grow and adapt as the business grows
- Able to challenge with empathy and support as required as we develop the business
- Comfortable with some ambiguity (our world is changing fast)
- Leadership/Management: Must work well within a team environment and must build and manage key internal and external relationships.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to frequently sit with frequent forward bending and occasional rotation. The employee must rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 13 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 45 pounds horizontally. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required occasionally to walk; climb stairs; and stand with rare rotation. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment:
Works in office environment and rarely site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some travel required (primarily to the mine sites and the Broomfield office)
