Mechanic/Apprentice, Lead Mechanic
Job Summary
The Loudoun Sheet Metal Mechanic must be capable of installing HVAC ducts and metal assemblies, for a variety of commercial applications such Schools, data centers, lab facilities, medical facilities, and offices. Depending on the experience level, the mechanic will perform tasks as determined by his/her supervisor. As an apprentice you are expected to install ductwork as directed by the lead Mechanic. The apprentice is expected to have basic duct installation skills and sufficient knowledge of the trade to quickly move up in the organization. A Sheet Metal mechanic will work under the supervision of a lead mechanic; however, he/she may be required to provide direct leadership to the field crew, from the layout preparation phase through final installation and testing. The lead mechanic shall have all the capabilities to effectively run all operations on a project from start to completion.
Primary responsibilities
•Able to utilize and interpret blueprints.
•Able to measure, mark and lay out materials to be installed using tools such as lasers, scribes, measuring tapes, calculators, and squares.
•Able to use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces.
•Able to select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to duct standards and job specifications.
•Ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating metal.
•May be required to work independently, performing work services as needed.
•Able to perform “take-offs” and create man hour estimates as needed.
•Set an example in keeping the job seat organized and clean, including meeting standards for waste disposal and environmental protection.
•Lead Mechanic must be capable for the daily operations on a specific construction site, from partial planning to overseeing.
•Lead Mechanic must be able to direct company field crews and oversee the overall productivity of the company’s services offered.
•Responsibility for adherence to Company and customer safety and quality guidelines.
•Capable of holding weekly safety meetings.
•Able to Communicate regularly with Superintendent ensuring project deadlines and specifications are met.
•Able to perform duct pressure testing and providing test calculations.
•Completes, “on a daily basis”, all project paperwork accurately and on time such as, “roll-call”, time sheets, material requests, work orders, tool transfers, and problem issues or resolved issues on the job site.
•Able to ensure safe work practices are followed by the crew.
•May be required to work independently, performing site surveys for estimates, proposal preparations or quality assurance.
•Able to monitor workmanship and material quality to ensure control standards are met at various stages of the project.
•Able to perform “take-offs” and create man hour estimates on a regular basis.
•Set an example in keeping the job seat organized and clean, including meeting standards for waste disposal and environmental protection.
Requirements:
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Driver's License (Required)
•US work authorization (Required)
•Ability to pass a drug screen and “fair chance” background check
•Apprentice 0-5 Years with supervision
•Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds.
•Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand for several hours at a time and to walk in varying climate conditions and on uneven ground.
•Must be able to climb ladders and perform the necessary work while on the ladder.
•Deftness and attention to detail
•Ability to travel to multiple job sites within the metropolitan DC area required. (to include the Baltimore MD area as well)
•Overtime may be required. May be required to work varying shifts.
•Must have the ability to write reports and maintain proper correspondence with other parties with good English reading and writing skills.
•Maintain proper correspondence with email.
•Must have experience reading construction documents, such as contract drawings, specifications, and maintenance personuals.
•OSHA certification desired.
•Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is desired.
•Knowledge of building codes Preferred.
