Automation Controls Specialist*
About the Position

A controls specialist representing LCS will be able to work remotely in a self-disciplined manner, act professionally in a work and personal environment, and produce high quality results. Interacting with customers, plant personnel, and modifying important system configurations is a common occurrence.
Take a commanding role in industrial manufacturing automation activities, including – PLC logic and HMI system development, network, database, data acquisition and reporting, control panel Cad design, P&ID and PFD drawings. Work primarily on large process control SCADA projects, with other related [packaging, continuous press, batching, etc.] processes and machinery as well.
Job Description
The ideal candidate has the ability to communicate intelligently and professionally with company managers and customers, while overseeing projects from concept to a successful commissioning. This candidate will be knowledgeable yet, willing to learn and improve. You will manage your own tasks on projects, supported by a staff of other engineers/integrators. Staying focused and on task, being detail-oriented and organized are critical traits. Having the ability to process and convey complex information is equally important.
This role includes designing new controls, upgrading existing equipment controls, modifying existing programs, designing and building new systems for plant upgrades, and occasional local/remote service work (program troubleshooting or modification). Most projects involve a combination of Cad drawings, PLC/HMI programming, data acquisition and report design (within a SCADA system context). We also do design/build work on R&D type projects.
What Functions Might a Typical Day Involve?
•Interact with customers to synthesize a project and develop a project scope, SOO (Sequence of Operations), specifications.
•Develop PFD’s (Process Flow Diagram) using Cad software (WSCAD).
•Design, build, test and commission PLC and HMI programs for process, batch and machine applications, utilizing Rockwell’s FactoryTalk Studio 5000, and FTView SE or Ignition.
•Travel to customer sites (minimal travel at ~10-15%, throughout US), for commissioning and occasional service work.
•Perform service programming under pressure – plant down scenario – both onsite and remotely (most service work is performed remotely).
•Collaborate with co-workers for optimal problem solving.
What Qualifies You For This Opportunity?
•Experience leveraging Studio 5000, FTView SE and Ignition to program PLC, PAC, HMI, Process (SCADA), and Machine control systems.
•Cad software familiarity.
Ability to work safely* in and around electrical control panels rated up to 600vac.
•Knowledge, experience testing and troubleshooting digital and analog sensors.
•Familiarity with various network architectures and communication protocols.
•You have reliable transportation, and the ability to travel. Though most of our work is performed locally, our customers are located throughout the US, so occasional travel to their location will be required.
•At least 5 years’ experience designing, building and commissioning control systems.
•You easily interact with other co-workers, customers and contractors.
•A solution-oriented mindset, drama free and easy to interact with.
Skills and Education
•High school diploma minimal, Associates or higher college degree preferred.
•Excellent communication and writing abilities.
•An aptitude for solving complex problems.
Ideal Candidate Preferences
•Smart, intuitive, motivated.
•Experienced in utilizing Rockwell / Allen Bradley products.
•Experience with Ignition SCADA software.
•Knowledgeable in database query development, report building.
•Having a personable demeanor, thinks before acting.
•Experience working in electrical control panels, testing sensors, configuring communications devices, takes a hands-on approach when troubleshooting control system issues.
Work Locally, Remotely
Applicants should be located in the greater DFW metroplex or surrounding area. Occasional travel to customer sites - local or regional - is required. The majority of your work will be performed from your home office, or you can work from a company office west of Fort Worth.
