Kindle Energy LLC (“Kindle”) specializes in the management, optimization, and development of power generation in the United States and Canada and is a portfolio company of The Blackstone Group. Blackstone is a leading global alternative asset manager with over $1 trillion in total assets under management. Currently, Kindle manages over 9,000 megawatts of generation in Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, and Texas. Kindle currently has two new power generation projects under construction: a 700 MW advanced-class natural gas combined-cycle facility in Louisiana and a 150 MW natural gas simple-cycle facility in Colorado.
We are seeking an experienced individual to join our Commercial Operations team in the position of Director, Power Trading. The position is approved to work out of Kindle’s Houston office or follow a hybrid work model. The position is expected to have travel requirements of less than 15%.
Primary Responsibilities:•Support Kindle’s Commercial Operations team in all aspects of the day-ahead/real-time optimization to maximize the profitability of Kindle-managed power generation facilities
•Work with third-party energy and/or fuel managers to develop daily asset offer strategy, fuel optimization and balancing, and real-time adjustments to ensure optimal economic dispatch of designated generation facility
•Serve as the primary point of contact for coordination between plant personnel, third-party energy and fuel managers, and ISO/RTO staff for all generation operating information, including any day-to-day operating limitations, outage schedules, start-ups or shutdowns, and any ad hoc data requests or performance history inquiries.
•Trade intra-month power products to manage the market exposure of the resource
•Field after-hours calls from plant personnel and third-party energy managers to respond to unexpected plant operational changes
•Maintain an expert-level understanding of relevant ISO/market rules.
•Provide guidance to back-office staff to help reconcile ISO settlements and Monthly PnL Report summaries. Prepare and present quarterly market update to Kindle’s management cross-functional groups
•Adhere to all company Risk Management Policies.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related fields.
•Working knowledge of the PJM and/or MISO market.
•Minimum of five years of experience managing the commercial operations of natural gas-fueled power generation assets.
•Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to communicate effectively and make high-value decisions in a sometimes fast-paced and stressful environment
•Highest degree of punctuality and reliability
•Proficiency with industry-specific third-party tools (i.e., YesEnergy, Genscape, WSI, FactSet, S&P Capital IQ)
•Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Power Point; programming languages (i.e., VBA, R, Python) a plus.
•Demonstrates high standards in risk management, performance management, relationships with third parties, communication, analysis, decision making, and legal and regulatory compliance.
