Under the general direction of the Casting Supervisor, the Holding Operator is responsible for the safe operation of all Holding Furnaces, while providing a quality product to fulfill the customer’s demands.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
Perform a variety of routine duties to operate and charge continuous casting equipment, with prescribed mix of molten metal, ingot and scrap to obtain a specified alloy. Must be able to operate melting and holding furnaces to maintain a specified flow of molten metal to the casting operations following prescribed methods and procedures.
Job Responsibilities- Follow plant safety rules and environmental policies, and attend required meetings. Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and environmental hazards to supervisor.
- Relieve the caster operator for breaks and lunch.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Set up and operate equipment as required and enter data into PCS (computer system).
- Clean, repair and inspect the furnaces as required.
- Monitor and detect faulty operations of equipment and defective material and initiate corrective action requests. Refer questionable cases to supervisor.
- Maintain work area, machine tools, and equipment in a clean, organized manner.
- Follow standard quality and performance requirements.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, and memos.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Must be able to measure and use measuring equipment such as micrometer and tape.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
