EverWind Fuels is embarking on a Clean Energy Project that will create Nova Scotia’s first green hydrogen production facility and unlock the potential of Nova Scotia’s green economy. In addition to the Point Tupper Clean Energy Project, EverWind operates the Point Tupper Terminal which has 7.5 million barrels of storage capacity and specializes in storage, blending and transshipping of petroleum and petrochemical products.
The Safety & Emergency Response Equipment Technician inspects and maintains all emergency response equipment and their storage locations to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. The major challenge of this position is to certify that all emergency response and rescue equipment is fit for use and that employees are trained in the proper procedures for checking their own equipment prior to wearing.
1. Operates the safety equipment inventory and issues safety equipment and PPE to employees as required to ensure the safe completion of their work.
2. Cleans, inspects, and maintains all safety equipment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and industry best practice.
3. Trains employees in the correct procedures for inspecting and wearing emergency response equipment and PPE.
4. Provides technical support for the safety equipment preventive maintenance and inventory programs.
5. Manages, tracks, and records the availability of Spill Response Equipment ensuring 100% readiness
6. Participates as a member of the EverWind Emergency Response Team.
7. Assists in the development and delivery of Emergency Response Training, including Oil Spill Response.
8. Trains employees in proper and safe fire-fighting techniques.
9. Conducts emergency response prevention inspections on site.
10. Assists the Safety Specialist and Environment Specialist when required.
11. Respond as available for site Emergency Response.

The position generally requires the incumbent to work days, Monday to Friday, frequently in an office environment, with regular site visits for the purposes of equipment inspections and assurance that all emergency response equipment and safety PPE is in a state of safety and readiness.
The Safety & Emergency Response Equipment Technician must have a minimum of five years of experience in inspection and maintenance of emergency response equipment and safety PPE. Excellent computer skills with competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as various safety programs are required as coherent and comprehensive report writing is a necessity. Knowledge of provincial safety and health legislation as well as fire-fighting regulations is essential. The incumbent will demonstrate strong interpersonal, planning, and organization skills with the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will demonstrate solid training skills and the ability to effectively deliver training programs and evaluate outcomes. Prior experience in the oil and gas industry would be considered an asset. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
The employee must be physically prepared to work in outdoor environments in all weather conditions. May be required to travel for business purposes. Must be able to wear PPE including SCBA/respirator, fire retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, head protection, steel-toed shoes.
- Stand; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift up to 50 lbs or drag and/or move up to 100 lbs.
- May climb tanks up to 100 ft or work on jetty above water (approx. 40 ft over water).
- Walk up to 2 miles at a time and be able to enter above ground storage tanks through man ways that are 24 inches or larger.
