Reporting to a Leadership Team member, the Director of Scientific and Health Communications will lead the strategic dissemination of complex scientific, medical, and public health information to diverse audiences, including customers and partners, media, and policymakers. This role will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies that ensure science-based, accurate, timely, and accessible messaging—particularly in the context of the health and education focus areas ETR works to address. The Director will oversee content strategy, manage a robust materials review process to ensure scientific accuracy and clarity, and serve as a key leader in crisis communication planning and response. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in science or public health communication, exceptional strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of how to translate technical information into actionable messages. This role supports the Leadership Team as a communications advisor, strategist, and business development partner. The Director develops and leads a team of communications and events specialists, and manages any communications vendor contracts. In addition, this role leads the execution of the organizational communications strategy, including public relations to support positive brand reputation, collaboration on marketing objectives with ETR Product marketing, and maximizing the positive exposure in local, national, and global markets. This position is also responsible for ensuring brand consistency across the promotion and integration of ETR’s strategies and direction and multiple sub brands of ETR’s work.

• Master’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Science communication, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
• 8 or more years of experience in Communications with practical knowledge of the concepts, considerations, and functions pertinent to the field, with at least 3 years in a communications leadership role.
• Demonstrated expertise in translating complex scientific or health content for non-expert audiences.
• Experience with crisis communications, media relations, and reputation management on the record.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with a track record of leading multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Excellent written, verbal communication skills, and with the ability to present ideas effectively through multiple media: video storytelling, short- and long- form written materials.
• Ability to take initiative and oversee complex projects and multiple tasks from inception to completion.
• Demonstrated capacity to carry out strategic thinking and business research/planning.
• Excellent analytical skills; experience in budget development/monitoring; preparing reports and work plans.
• Exceptional administrative, organizational, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Prior experience in a government agency, public health nonprofit, or academic institution.
• Familiarity with plain language principles, health literacy best practices, and behavior change communication.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and platforms for public health messaging.
• This position is remote, and requires travel up to 25% time.
• The use of a personal vehicle or rental car for ETR business will require a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Location:
Remote – Anywhere in the United States. This position requires travel up to 25%time.
Starting Pay Range:
$136,400-166,700 annually. The typical hiring range for this position is $136,400 -
$151,500 at 100% FTE.The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
