Position Summary
The Fleet and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all fleet operations, equipment compliance, and safety programs across Discovery Hydrovac. This role ensures full compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations, minimizes risk, reduces downtime, and supports safe and efficient field operations. This position works closely with Operations, HR, Accounting, and Field Leadership to ensure vehicles, equipment, and employees meet regulatory and company standards.
Fleet Management
Oversee company fleet including hydrovac trucks, support vehicles, trailers, and equipment
Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend asset life
Coordinate repairs, inspections, registrations, permits, and warranties
Track fleet utilization, fuel usage, maintenance costs, and replacement planning
Manage vendor relationships with mechanics, dealerships, and equipment suppliers
Maintain accurate fleet records and reporting
Safety and Compliance
Own and manage DOT compliance including driver qualification files, hours of service, DVIRs, drug and alcohol program, and audits
Ensure OSHA compliance including safety training, recordkeeping, inspections, and corrective actions
Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and SOPs
Conduct jobsite audits, vehicle inspections, and safety observations
Lead incident, accident, and near miss investigations with clear corrective action plans
Maintain OSHA logs and required reporting
Training and Culture
Deliver safety onboarding and ongoing training for drivers, operators, and field employees
Partner with HR on disciplinary actions related to safety or compliance violations
Promote a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, prevention, and continuous improvement
Serve as a resource to field teams for safety best practices and regulatory questions
Reporting and Metrics
Track and report KPIs related to safety performance, incidents, fleet costs, and downtime
Prepare documentation for internal leadership, audits, and regulatory agencies
Identify trends and recommend improvements to reduce risk and cost
Required
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in fleet management and safety leadership
Strong working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations
Experience managing commercial vehicle fleets and heavy equipment
Ability to lead investigations and implement corrective actions
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred
Experience in hydrovac, construction, utilities, or heavy industrial environments
OSHA 30 certification
CDL knowledge or prior CDL holder
Experience with fleet management software and safety tracking systems
