The Health & Safety Operations Manager plays a key role in daily safety operations, project oversight, and consistent implementation of our safety standards. This position provides leadership to field safety personnel, supports supervisors, and collaborates closely with Compliance to maintain and improve our Health & Safety Management System.
This is an office-based role with regular jobsite visits and includes direct management of field safety specialists and project safety personnel.
- Review, approve, and maintain control of all project safety documentation, including Safety Plans, Rescue Procedures, and Safe Work Execution Plans.
- Oversee and support field safety staff and project safety specialists, ensuring FLHAs, permits, and site documentation meet company standards.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify safe work practices and engage directly with field teams.
- Serve as the first point of contact for all incidents, injuries, near misses, and significant events; lead or coordinate investigations.
- Collaborate with Operations and Project Management to develop, implement, and track effective corrective actions.
- Liaise directly with client HSE teams and ensure project teams understand and meet client-specific safety requirements.
- Lead safety communications including alerts, bulletins, and project-specific safety updates.
- Manage, schedule, and develop all Health & Safety Field Specialists and project safety personnel, ensuring qualifications and job readiness.
- Lead the operational components of COR audits and work with Compliance to address findings and drive continuous improvement.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in health & safety operations within refinery, industrial construction, or oil & gas settings.
- Strong understanding of project-level safety documentation, hazard assessments, and field operations.
- Experience leading incident response, investigations, and corrective action processes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing field safety personnel or project safety teams.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to conduct regular field visits.
- OHS-related education or certifications (NCSO, CRSP, CRST, etc.) considered an asset.
