This position is located at the 75 MW Burgess Energy Services biomass facility located in Berlin, New Hampshire.
Rotating shifts: 4 days/nights on followed by 4 days/nights off.
The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling boiler, turbine, and auxiliary plant equipment from the control room to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous plant operation.
· Maintains safe and efficient boiler operation including maintaining productive boiler combustion, maximize generation, operates facility within all applicable permits.
· Monitors plant operational and emissions data; detects and responds to changing conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency.
· Coordinates, directs, and trains all subordinates as required.
· Coordinates lock-out tag-out, work permits, hot work permits, and confined space entry permits.
· Oversees the operation of plant equipment and dispatch operators for local monitoring for safe and efficient operation. Works with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and ascertains probable cause.
· Keeps plant manager and supervisors informed of operational issues through weekly operations reports and other standard forms of communication.
· Combination of office and plant environment. Work is performed in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot to cool/cold, including in snowy or icy conditions. Noise levels will be moderate to high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools. People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Bells, whistles, and alarms.
· Frequently exposed to high voltages, high currents, and hazardous mechanical conditions, e.g., electrical cables, breakers, motors, and rotating equipment.
· Exposure to extreme environmental conditions, hazardous materials, heights, high noise levels and confined spaces.
· Outdoor weather conditions: heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, mud, ice, and dust.
· Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
· For safety reasons, must be able to communicate both audibly and visually.
Specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors and adjust focus.
· Use hands and arms to handle equipment.
· Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl to service equipment.
· Must be able to accomplish physical requirements with or without reasonable.
· Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls, and tools. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders, stairways, and work off of platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
· Able to hear (at some dB limit of loss) in order to hear plant alarms, equipment condition, and to receive oral instructions.
· Able to see to determine plant operating conditions and to avoid safety hazards.
· Experience in the operations and control of a steam generating power plant.
· Emerson Ovation DCS Operating System experience preferred.
