We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Field Technician to ensure environmental regulatory compliance for upstream oil and gas assets. In this role, you will conduct Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) surveys, providing insightful communication of findings to stakeholders. Collaboration with operations and facilities teams will be crucial as you offer recommendations to enhance environmental performance. The position also involves active participation in various environmental and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
•Conduct routine and as-required OGI regulatory inspections on field equipment/vessels, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, safety standards, and operating procedures.
•Identify and assess the severity of methane leaks, contributing to enhanced facility safety and equipment reliability.
•Offer analyses and maintenance recommendations based on findings.
•Conduct optical gas imaging inspections during flowback, facility start-up activities, and post-maintenance and facility closure activities.
•Periodically perform calibration and maintenance of all equipment related to job requirements.
•Undertake minor/routine maintenance and equipment repairs during inspections, addressing problems promptly (e.g., repairs to valves, fittings, pumps, etc.).
•Maintain a records database system essential for annual reporting of fugitive emissions inspections, including inspection logs, repairs, follow-up inspections, and repair descriptions.
•Coordinate repairs with third-party vendors as needed.
•Complete system upgrades or maintenance type repairs to fill schedule gaps.
•Lead third party vendors and teammates through isolation and lock out procedures to perform required maintenance.
•Assist with scheduled DFA cleaning and repair.
•Integrate tasks such as methane monitor calibration into OGI inspections or walkthroughs when in any specific area.
•Conduct periodic opacity observations using EPA method 22 and flare pilot monitoring.
•Manage a complex and evolving task/responsibility schedule, prioritizing daily to ensure the highest priorities are addressed and regulatory compliance is maintained consistently.
•Support regulatory and environmental compliance efforts (e.g. Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure inspections, spill investigation, annual environmental inventory reporting, and site inspections per federal and state regulations).
•Assist with audits and due diligence as required.
Qualifications
•Proficiency in operating OGI cameras and experience in conducting oil and gas field-based facility inspections.
•Certification in thermography.
•In-depth understanding of oilfield operations.
•Ability to identify hazards on any facility or operation.
•A high caliber stance focused around resolving safety natured infractions immediately.
•Knowledge of upstream oil and gas operations, equipment, and processes.
•Ability to troubleshoot emissions-related issues and effectively communicate/implement solutions.
•Excellent organizational skills with a commitment to strict deadlines.
•Strong computer skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
•High School Diploma or equivalent.
•Valid driver's license with a history of safe driving practices.
•Flexibility to work weekends/nights as required for quality field inspections across seasonal periods.
•Exposure to and driving in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold, sun, rain, hail, sleet, high winds, etc., to conduct well routes and inspect/repair equipment.
•Physical ability to perform routine maintenance, involving bending, lifting, crouching, pulling, and kneeling.
•Minimum of 4 years of experience in oil & gas operations or maintenance.
•Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices.
•Clear, concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.
•Ability to work on an on-call schedule, including weekends and holidays.
•Safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to appropriate safety measures.
•Effective team player with a self-motivated work ethic, capable of working with minimal supervision.
