Description
Alloy Engineering, located in Berea, OH, is seeking a
Burn Table Operatorto join our production team on the
2nd shift. This position is ideal for candidates with experience operating CNC plasma, laser, or oxy-fuel cutting tables who take pride in precision, quality, and safety. They will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC and/or manual burn tables to cut metal plate or sheet to precise specifications. This role requires knowledge of material types, thicknesses, cutting processes, and reading blueprints.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Load raw material (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel alloy, etc.) onto the burn table using overhead cranes or forklifts.
- Set up and operate CNC plasma, oxy-fuel, or laser burn tables according to work orders, blueprints, and CAD/CAM programs.
- Select appropriate cutting tips, consumables, speeds, feeds, and gases for material type and thickness.
- Verify cutting programs for accuracy and adjust as needed.
- Monitor burn table operation to ensure clean, accurate cuts and minimize scrap.
- Perform test cuts to confirm tolerances before running full production.
- Mark, tag, and move cut parts to the next process according to routing.
- Remove slag, burrs, or imperfections from parts when required.
- Inspect cut parts using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares) to verify dimensions meet blueprint tolerances.
- Identify and correct any defects or deviations.
- Record production data and inspection results in accordance with quality procedures.
- Follow all safety policies, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as replacing consumables, cleaning filters, and checking gas lines.
- Report mechanical or software issues to maintenance or supervision immediately.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience operating CNC plasma or oxy-fuel burn tables preferred (willing to train entry-level candidates with mechanical aptitude).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and welding symbols.
- Basic understanding of material properties and cutting techniques.
- Proficiency with measuring instruments, measuring accurately with a tape measure, and basic math, including fractions and decimals.
- Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes (training provided if not already certified).
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently.
- Must be detail-oriented.
- Position requires physical capability, which includes standing most of the time, some lifting up to 25 to 50 pounds, and pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and reaching as needed.
- Standard shift is ten hours per day, with Steel-toe boots and safety glasses required.
- The plant facility does not have air conditioning.
Shift hours: 56 Hours a week- 2 Saturdays a month
1st shift: 6:00 am-4;30pm Monday-Friday
2nd shift: 4:00 pm-2:30 am Monday-Friday
