This role is critical to our continued growth. We are looking for an experienced Electrical & HVAC Estimator who understands California construction, can manage the full estimating lifecycle, and can confidently support both private and public sector bids.
The Electrical & HVAC Construction Estimator plays a key role in evaluating, preparing, and submitting competitive bids for California-based projects. This position is responsible for analyzing bid documents, identifying project risks and cost drivers, performing detailed takeoffs, building accurate estimates, and supporting business development through professional communication with general contractors and project stakeholders.
This role works primarily from home, with occasional office or project-related coordination when needed.
- Review all bid documents, including:
- Plans and drawings
- Specifications
- General conditions
- Notes, rules, and addendums
- Analyze projects to determine bid / no-bid decisions
- Identify critical scope items, exclusions, assumptions, and risk factors that may affect pricing or execution
- Track and organize bid files and addendums in a structured, auditable manner
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
- Electrical systems
- HVAC systems
- Demonstrate and explain takeoffs when required
- Build complete estimates including:
- Labor units and labor rates
- Material pricing
- Equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs
- Enter and manage estimate data within estimating software
- Adjust pricing based on project complexity, schedule, risk, and scope
- Prepare estimates for California public works and government projects
- Understand and account for:
- Prevailing wage requirements
- Certified payroll and documentation needs
- Public agency bid requirements and compliance
- Prepare professional bid proposals and scope letters
- Ensure bids are completed accurately and submitted on or before deadlines
- Track submitted bids and perform follow-ups as needed
- Conduct internal estimate review meetings to present:
- Pricing
- Assumptions
- Risks and value opportunities
- Communicate professionally with:
- General contractors
- Owners
- Vendors and subcontractors
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with GCs and project partners
- Assist in identifying new bid opportunities
- Monitor upcoming work and procurement platforms
- Support efforts to secure repeat and new projects
- Minimum 4 years of estimating experience in BOTH trades:
- Electrical construction
- HVAC construction
- California project experience only
- Strong knowledge of:
- California NEC
- California HVAC codes and standards
- Proven experience with:
- Commercial construction projects
- Public works / state / government projects
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction documents and specifications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
- Experience with California state, municipal, school district, or healthcare projects
- Familiarity with estimating software such as ConEst, Vision, Accubid, or similar platforms
- Mostly remote / work-from-home
