The Senior Transfer Press Operator independently manages transfer press operations in our metal stamping facility. This role is responsible for operating, and troubleshooting transfer presses with minimal supervision, ensuring quality and production standards are consistently met. The Senior Transfer Press Operator has a strong understanding of press room operations and will play a key role in mentoring junior operators and supporting overall pressroom efficiency.
· Operate, and monitor transfer presses to produce high-quality stamped metal parts according to specifications and record daily production output in the JobBOSS2 system.
· Submit first-piece inspections, monitor production quality, and make necessary machine or process adjustments to maintain part compliance – this will include maintaining coolant levels and concentrations and basic PM activities such as press lubrication and maintenance of press lube systems.
· Diagnose and resolve press malfunctions or tooling issues to minimize downtime and scrap.
· Maintain proper documentation including production reports, quality check sheets, and maintenance logs.
· Moving product, and scrap to designated areas.
· Mentor and assist junior press operators, providing training and guidance on safe and efficient operations.
· Follow and enforce all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and proper use of PPE.
· Communicate effectively with supervisors, quality, maintenance, and tool room personnel to support production flow.
· Participate in continuous improvement efforts and suggest process enhancements to improve efficiency and safety.
· High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification preferred.
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating and setting up transfer presses in a metal stamping environment.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot press and tooling issues independently.
· Successful completion of phase 1 (PPM 3.14.1) and phase 2 (PPM 3.14.2) training plans.
· Familiarity with die protection systems, sensors, coil feed systems, and press controls.
· Understanding of part drawings, measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.), and basic SPC principles.
· Ability to read and interpret work instructions and quality specifications.
· Good communication skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
· Experience with progressive die and transfer systems.
· Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality standards.
· Basic knowledge of ERP or production tracking systems.
Fast-paced manufacturing environment with regular exposure to loud equipment, moving machinery, and metal stamping operations. Compliance with PPE and safety standards is required.
