Oregon Biochar Solutions is a growing, hands-on team operating at the intersection of manufacturing and sustainability. Our work includes manufacturing and selling biochar, an environmentally friendly product with applications in agriculture and industry, as well as generating carbon credits (specifically, carbon removals). We are seeking a candidate who thrives in a Startup environment and is looking to be a leader in a new, fast-paced industry.
This position requires overseeing production, sales, and business operations — keeping everything aligned, efficient, and profitable — and continually seeking ways to optimize workflows. You are a good fit if you are someone who not only understands industrial settings but also brings people together, fosters accountability, and builds trust with a diverse team. As a growing company, we all wear multiple hats. That means you will have to oversee, support, and execute daily.
As Operations Lead, you will be the glue between our production facility, sales team, and business operations functions. You will:
- Lead & Motivate: Manage a team of 3–8, fostering a culture of accountability, respect, and collaboration—whether working with field operators or business operation staff.
- Oversee Operations: Monitor and coordinate day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient collaboration between production, sales, logistics, accounting, and contractors for successful deliveries and inventory balances.
- Optimize Operations: Identify inefficiencies, develop and optimize SOPs, and streamline processes to increase profitability and reduce costs.
- Ensure Compliance: Support the team and contractors in achieving ongoing certification of carbon credits and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Drive Growth: Work with management to implement operational strategies that allow the company and team to scale sustainably.
- Model Leadership: Balance strong decision-making with emotional intelligence—able to motivate a seasoned crew while maintaining professionalism with clients and partners.
We’re looking for someone who is not just here for a job, but wants to grow with our team and contribute to the company’s long-term success. If you don’t have all of these but want to grow into them, we still want to hear from you!
- Mindset: Thrives in a highly dynamic sector because of your self-starting and problem-solving attitude. You take pride in your work and the results of the whole company.
- Mission: Desire to work on making a better tomorrow for our planet and our children.
- Leadership Style: Able to motivate and hold teams accountable while maintaining strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Leadership Experience: 4–10 years in manufacturing environments, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team of 3–10 people.
- Industry Background: Ideally experienced in navigating within heavy industry, with experience in product logistics.
- Implementing Processes: Able to motivate and hold accountable the team to follow established processes and implement suggestions, yielding improvements.
- Operational Skills: Skilled at structuring workflows, following compliance frameworks, developing SOPs, optimizing processes, coordinating logistics, and managing costs.
- Cultural Fit: Comfortable working with a diverse group of people—from office teams to facility operators in an industrial, hands-on environment.
- Tools: Familiarity with a CRM (Hubspot, Zoho, etc), Google Suite, Excel, ChatGPT.
