About The Role
As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment is operating at peak performance. Your expertise will help drive the success of critical infrastructure projects across the underground utility industry. This position is pivotal to maintaining operational efficiency, minimizing downtime, and ensuring safety and reliability on every job site. DBE UTILITY SERVICES is seeking a full-time Heavy Diesel Mechanic for all of Florida. A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required. DBE is an underground utilities company with its main headquarters located in Palm Beach County, FL and satellite office in Jacksonville, FL. We specialize in large scale directional drilling and open-cut installation of water, sewer, gas, fiber, and power. Key Responsibilities
•Special consideration given to individuals with maintenance experience on directional drilling equipment.
•Diagnosis, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and diesel equipment.
•Perform root-cause analysis to determine necessary corrective actions.
•Must have the ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams and technical repair manuals.
•Conduct extensive equipment inspections and identify worn and damaged parts.
•Verify equipment performance by conducting field tests.
•Spec parts needed for repairs and order from suppliers. Fabrication of some parts may be required.
•Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
•Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
•Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
•Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
•Ability and willingness to travel to job sites located within the Southeast.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to various levels of employees and management.
•Must be a self-starter who can work independently.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Minimum of 5 years mechanic experience, preferably in the construction industry.
•Must have experience in hydraulics.
•Must have extensive diagnostic and repair experience with trucks and heavy equipment, preferably including directional drills.
•Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
•Occasional long hours to support drill crew during critical pullbacks.
•Willing to travel for 2-3 days at a time
Key Nice-To-Haves
•Certifications such as ASE Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
•Graduate degrees or advanced coursework in mechanical engineering or related fields.
•Proficiency with fleet management software or diagnostic tools.
•Commercial Driver's License
