Production Control – Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for processing Transmittals from the Detailer and ensuring they are properly imported into PowerFab. This includes reviewing their content for accuracy, tracking revisions, and coordinating with relevant parties so changes are effectively incorporated into the production flow.
Your focus is on coordinating between Production Control, the Command Center, Project Management, Detailing, and other departments. You will also help facilitate ILTs (Inspection List Transmittals) and Work Orders, ensuring they reach the shops in a timely manner. In addition, you will assist with Document Control tasks whenever necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Transmittal & Revision Management
•Review incoming Transmittals from Detailers to ensure all required information is present.
•Monitor and document revisions, coordinating with Project Managers and Shop Supervisors to integrate these updates seamlessly into production.
Production Coordination & Scheduling
•Prioritize jobs according to project deadlines, resource availability, and shop capacity.
•Maintain open communication with procurement and inventory teams to confirm needed materials, consumables, and hardware are on hand before production starts.
•Collaborate with supervisors to plan labor allocation, machine usage, and minimize downtime.
Cross-Functional Liaison
•Serve as the central point of contact between the shop floor and management, quickly relaying any issues or delays that could impact schedules.
•Communicate with Project Management, Detailing, and other stakeholders about production status, pending issues, and newly identified priorities.
Data & Document Management
•Generate daily/weekly progress reports to keep leadership informed of key metrics and potential risks.
•Maintain accurate records of production in ERP/MRP systems or spreadsheets.
•Support Document Control processes, ensuring all changes are tracked and properly archived.
Continuous Improvement
•Analyze production data to identify potential bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
•Suggest solutions or process improvements that boost productivity or reduce costs.
Problem-Solving & Pressure Management
•Anticipate potential issues (e.g., material shortages, scheduling conflicts) and proactively develop resolutions.
•Demonstrate a calm, methodical approach when handling time-sensitive challenges.
Required Skills & Qualifications
•Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., PowerFab) for data entry and tracking.
•Understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and the ability to read shop drawings.
•Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to pivot priorities based on production demands.
•Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to coordinate across multiple departments.
•Prior experience or knowledge of processes in fabrication is a plus.
•Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently while keeping the team informed.
