About This Job
Residential journeyman electrician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in homes, adhering to safety codes and blueprints. Troubleshoot electrical issues, perform routine maintenance, and may supervise or train apprentices. Work can include installing new wiring, lighting, and appliances, as well as inspecting and upgrading existing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
•
Installation: Installing electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and appliances in new and existing homes.
•
Maintenance: Performing routine checks and maintenance on electrical systems, including wiring, outlets, switches, and circuit breakers.
•
Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and repairing electrical problems, using diagnostic tools and techniques.
•
Code Compliance: Ensuring all electrical work is completed according to local and national building codes and safety regulations.
•
Blueprint Reading: Interpreting technical drawings and blueprints to understand the layout and specifications of electrical systems.
•
Supervision/Training: May supervise and train apprentices, providing guidance and support.
•
Customer Communication: Discussing project requirements, providing estimates, and communicating with clients about work progress.
•
Material Management: Keeping track of inventory and ordering necessary materials and parts.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
•
Licensing: Completion of an electrician apprenticeship and holding a valid journeyman electrician license.
•
Technical Skills: Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
•
Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding of electrical safety procedures and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
•
Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues.
•
Communication Skills: Effective communication with clients, supervisors, and other team members.
•
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including working in various weather conditions.
