Description
Reporting to the Senior Geologist and/or Manager, Exploration Geosciences, the Intermediate Geologist will assist with drill programs across NexGen’s mineral tenure portfolio with the objective of advancing economic uranium discovery. The role supports the planning and execution of exploration activities such as drill programs, geophysical surveys, infrastructure development, and resampling programs. The incumbent will ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high technical standards.
The Intermediate Geologist works as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a strong focus on health, safety, and the environment, and supports continuous improvement in exploration practices, program efficiency, and data quality.
Location
This role is based in the Saskatoon, SK office with regular rotation to the Project site during drilling campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform core logging, sample collection, and QA/QC activities to ensure exploration best practices and high-quality geological data.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and coaching to junior geologists/assistants during active drill programs to support consistent logging, sampling, and QA/QC standards.
- Engage with contractors to confirm expectations, reinforce best practices, and ensure health and safety programs s are followed.
- Interpret and report geological data; develop and/or maintain geological models.
- Work with the Exploration Team to advance project understanding to enable continued target refinement and prioritization.
- Contribute to exploration program planning, identifying opportunities and efficiencies that support exploration objectives, safety performance, and technical outcomes.
- Coordinate detailed drill program logistics to ensure drillholes are prioritized to produce expected results; support the effective, timely, and cost-conscious execution of activities.
- Establish drillhole locations and test targets as directed; support collar planning, drilling instructions, and communication of geological interpretations as a support of drillhole targeting.
- Participate in field rotations to ensure drill programs are conducted to high standards with an emphasis on health, safety, environment, and community respect.
- Complete required reporting as directed by the VP, Exploration which includes maintaining clear documentation of work completed, results, and program progress for internal use and decision support.
- Communicate opportunities, issues, and findings in a timely manner; escalate risks, delays, or data quality concerns to the Senior Geologist and Manager, Exploration Geosciences.
- Follow NexGen HSE policies and procedures at all times, exercise Stop Work authority when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed.
- Support implementation of exploration HSE plans and procedures, including field-level risk assessments, safe work practices, and emergency response expectations.
- Reinforce HSE expectations with contractors and field crews by participating in safety meetings, hazard identification, and incident/near-miss reporting.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to radiation protection, environmental stewardship, and community considerations in exploration activities.
- Promote respectful conduct and positive engagement with contractors, communities, and Indigenous partners at site and in the field.
- Perform other geological and exploration tasks as assigned to support team and project objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology (or closely related geoscience discipline).
- 3-5 years of experience in mineral exploration, uranium exploration and/or Athabasca Basin experience considered an asset.
- Eligibility for (or progress toward) P.Geo designation in Saskatchewan or relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience supervising field teams or coordinating drill programs.
- Strong understanding of geological software and databases (Micromine, ioGAS, TSG, acQuire).
- Strong capability with 3D geological modelling and data visualization workflows.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and demonstrated safety leadership.
- Experience working field rotations to support drill programs in remote locations.
- Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities and northern/remote stakeholders.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) and acceptable driving record.
