POSITION SUMMARY Performs required repairs and maintenance on all rolling stock and stationary equipment, including, but not limited to; PETE tractors, Roll-Off trucks, possum belly and walking floor trailers, heavy equipment, forklifts, man-lifts, conveyance systems, motors, walking floor systems, and balers, and any other equipment and/or facility repairs as directed by the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBIITIES: The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.
· Performs repairs and maintenance on various rolling stock and stationary equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels and tires.
· Road tests vehicles to trouble shoot problems and/or test repairs to ensure proper safe completion
· Reads and interprets vehicle and equipment condition reports and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and equipment operators for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with equipment operators to minimize future repairs.
· Uses a large array of hand and power tools.
· Reads reports, discusses, demonstrates, and completes forms as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum five years’ experience performing repairs and maintenance on heavy duty diesel tractors, heavy duty equipment, and stationary equipment.
- ASE Certified preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills.
- Working knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
· Valid California driver’s license with excellent driving record.
· Demonstrate the ability to repair rolling stock and stationary equipment in an efficient, effective and timely manner.
· Demonstrate the ability to perform various types of welding, including stick and mg.
· Demonstrate the proper use of cutting torches and plasma cutters.
- Able to read, comprehend and apply technical manuals, equipment operating instructions and preventative maintenance manuals from equipment manufacturers.
· Able to communicate effectively, read, estimate, calculate, interpret, measure and document in writing.
· Owns the appropriate tools to repair heavy duty trucks and equipment.
· Ability to obtain a class A commercial driver’s license within 240 days of employment.
· Ability to sustain a steady work pace over an entire workday.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
· Ability to tolerate confined spaces for extended periods of time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to indoor and outdoor environments. If out in the field, they will occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the fieldwork environment is usually moderate to loud. Must be to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights. Extensive walking and stair climbing is required. Work in outdoor and indoor environments year-round.
