The Director of Regulatory & Technical Safety is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety compliance systems across North American operations. This position is responsible for ensuring the enterprise meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and internal safety objectives, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and risk mitigation. The Director of Regulatory & Technical Safety creates and sustains long-term strategies related to regulatory and environmental compliance, leading a team of seven direct reports, including Regulatory/Technical Business Partners.

What you’ll do:•Leads the organizations Regulatory & Technical field team in support of strategic initiatives to prevent accidents and injuries, developing long-term health and safety strategies related to environmental and regulatory compliance
•Manages 7 direct reports, Regulatory/Technical Business Partners in the US and Canada, providing regulatory guidance and ensuring field support to the regional operations teams across North American footprint
•Serves as the primary contact for federal, state and provincial agency enforcement matters, working with location, state and federal agencies across the US and Canada
•Maintains knowledge of all applicable corporate, federal, state and local regulatory requirements in Canada and the US for environmental and general regulatory compliance, remaining informed on developing regulatory requirements, particularly on a state and local level
•Tracks changes in regulatory requirements, identifies the impact of changes to business operations, and communicates impact to VP of Health & Safety
•Develops and executes risk management techniques for compliance with Jurisdictional Safety requirements
•Manages enterprise Process Safety Management (PSM) and RMP compliance programs
•Continually communicates environmental compliance risk trends to business leaders, including Senior Leadership, and providing guidance and informing business strategy
•Works collaboratively across the safety function with the other “Center of Excellence” leaders to execute strategic objectives to accomplish business objectives
•Collaborates cross-functionally with other business functions where strategic interdependencies exist, including but not limited to Human Resources, Learning, Claims, Legal functions
•Regularly audits all occupational health & safety programs to ensure success
•This role will sit remotely, but will require 25% travel throughout our US & Canadian footprint (2 trips per month, averaging 2-3 days in duration)
What you bring:
•Bachelor's Degree or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related field
•10+ years' in ESH field with 5+ years' in a leadership role leading large organizations; Experience leading cross-border teams strongly preferred
•Professional certifications preferred (i.e. CSP, OHST, CHMM)
•Knowledge of regulatory bodies requirements, including: OSHA DOT, DHS, Health Canada, NFPA, NPGA, CPA, EPA
•Ability to meet travel requirements needed for the position
