Beaver Biodiesel Inc. is in growth mode and currently seeking skilled and dedicated Civil Litigation Attorney to join our legal team. This is a remote position, but candidates must live in or be able to commute to the Niagara area. The role requires regular travel in courts between Toronto and Fort Erie, as well as occasional in-person meetings within Western New York.
The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience in contract enforcement and tortious interference. Because of the sensitive nature of the work, outside employment or legal practice for other clients is not permitted during the period of employment with Beaver Biodiesel.
- Manage and oversee civil litigation matters involving the company, including pleadings, motions, discovery, hearings, and trial preparation.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Represent the company in court, mediations, arbitrations, and negotiations as required.
- Advise company leadership on litigation strategy, risk management, regulatory compliance, and potential legal exposure.
- Coordinate with external counsel when necessary and supervise their work to ensure cost-effective, high-quality representation.
- Travel to various sites and jurisdictions, primarily between Toronto and Fort Erie, for court appearances, inspections, depositions, and stakeholder meetings.
- Maintain organized case files, track deadlines, and ensure legal matters are handled efficiently and accurately.
- Expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Admitted and in good standing with the Upper Canada Law Society.
- Over 3 years of civil litigation experience; commercial or business litigation preferred.
- Strong written and verbal advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining responsiveness and professionalism.
- High ethical standards and ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Exclusive employment: Employee may not maintain other active legal employment, represent other clients, or engage in outside legal practice during employment with Beaver Biodiesel Inc.
- Valid driver’s license and passport (or other documentation permitting cross-border travel).
- Ability to accommodate periodic irregular hours depending on litigation demands.
