Job Overview
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, and supporting the delivery of high-quality products that meet both customer and regulatory requirements.
This role oversees daily quality operations, manages quality personnel, and serves as the primary liaison for internal teams, suppliers, and customers on quality-related matters. The Quality Manager will play a key role in driving corrective and preventive actions, leading internal and external audits, and fostering a proactive quality culture across the organization.
Beyond compliance and inspection, the role is also accountable for developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives, supporting employee training and development, and enabling a consistent, data-driven approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities
Quality Leadership
•Own and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) to ISO 9001 standards
•Prepare for and lead internal and external audits (ISO, customer, regulatory)
•Lead root cause investigations and Corrective/Preventive Action (CAPA) efforts
•Coordinate with Production, Engineering, and Customer Service to solve quality issues
Process & System Oversight
•Oversee document control, training compliance, inspection processes, and risk mitigation
•Monitor and report on key quality metrics: Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), internal/external defect rates, and customer complaints
•Ensure control of non-conforming product and verification of purchased product
•Manage calibration records, supplier quality performance, and customer returns
Team Development & Culture
•Lead and develop Quality Technicians and Inspectors
•Support onboarding and training of new employees on quality expectations and standards
•Partner with leadership on Lean/CI initiatives (5S, 8 Wastes, SMED, etc.)
•Promote a proactive, engaged quality culture at all levels of the organization
Qualifications
•Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 3 years of inspection experience in a production environment
•5+ years in Quality roles within manufacturing (metal fabrication or assembly preferred)
•Ability to read technical drawings and use inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.)
•2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
•Understanding of ISO 9001 systems and audit preparation
•Working knowledge of inspection methods, root cause tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.), and quality reporting
•Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
•Familiarity with ERP systems
•PPAPs, PFMEA or launching new product quality plans
Bonus Experience
•Leading customer-facing quality initiatives.
•Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
•Lean or Six Sigma training/certification
•Experience using a CMM machine (Romer, Faro, etc.). Programming a substantial plus.
•Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes including lasers, CNC turret punches, press brakes, welding, sawing and milling operations.
•ASQ Certified Quality Engineer Certification (or equivalent) preferred but not required.
