Relay Tech Apprentice 1st Year - Relay Technician
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory such as Ohm’s Law and series and parallel circuits in order to understand
- The ability to use electrical test devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, meggers, and continuity checkers to
perform basic checks for continuity, resistance, voltage, opens, shorts, insulation breakdowns, and grounds.
- The ability to read relay control drawings and schematics
- Troubleshooting - Assist crew member in determining causes of equipment failure
- Installation - Assist crew member in installing electrical equipment to meet company specifications
- Reading comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
- Equipment maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on electrical equipment
- Active listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being
- Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weakness of alternative solutions,
- Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving
- Ability to speak effectively one-on-one with coworkers, management and external personnel.
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and other Windows based programs.
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:
- While performing the duties of the job, this employee will regularly be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel,
crouch, crawl, and lift up to one hundred pounds.
- While performing the duties this employee will regularly be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger,
handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
- Lift or pull heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds
- The ability to work above ground from aerial bucket trucks, at ground level, and in trenches or manholes
- Special vision requirements are close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
