Modern Group is a growing fourth generation, family owned consortium of steel forging and value-added manufacturing and assembly businesses. The role of Junior SBQ Buyer is located onsite at our Modern Forge Indiana location in Merrillville, Indiana.
The ideal Manufacturing Buyer Buyer candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of supply chain management concepts, practices, and procedures specifically aligned within the SBQ Steel Bar Industry. The Manufacturing Buyer will have ability to effectively manage procurement and delivery of products and services in a fast paced multi-site manufacturing environment.
This Manufacturing Buyer role is responsible for assisting in execution and oversight of purchasing SBQ raw material for multiple locations including but not limited to: maintaining stock levels to ensure production schedules are met, creating POs, developing and maintaining supplier relationships, monitoring and reporting on supplier performance, and providing updates on current orders. The Manufacturing Buyer will participate in annual pricing negotiations to ensure company is getting best prices possible. The Manufacturing Buyer will collaborate with Senior buyers and Quality to investigate problems with suppliers or materials. This Manufacturing Buyer role will help implement strategic sourcing events and process implementation.
The role of Manufacturing Buyer reports to the General Manager. This position possesses opportunities for growth and advancement. Successful Manufacturing Buyer candidate will possess advanced analytical, computer, communication, and negotiation skills to help maintain a robust supply chain in SBQ raw material market by optimizing inventory, monitoring supplier performance, maintaining data to identify trends and potential delivery issues.
Duties of Manufacturing / SBQ Buyer
•Utilize MRP system to ensure POs are created and reviewed in a timely and accurate manner to support customer and manufacturing requirements.
•Maintain delivery confirmation and update details in MRP system.
•Review surcharges; work with finance to ensure proper allocation and customer billing.
•Communicate price and delivery issues/changes to management team in an effective manner.
•Identify bottlenecks and implement strategies to improve delivery dates as needed.
•Collaborate with production planning to ensure manufacturing needs are met.
•Analyze demand trends to optimize procurement and production planning across multiple facilities.
•Create and maintain reports as needed to support production schedules.
•Travel domestically once per quarter.
•Assist in executing purchasing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery of raw materials.
•Aid in building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
•Prepare, process, and track POs; ensuring accuracy in pricing, specifications, and delivery schedules.
•Ensure materials meet customer requirements and specifications by collaborating with Quality Control and Metallurgy.
•Lead and support price and contract negotiations to secure favorable terms for the company.
•Help prepare and present market reports on pricing trends, supplier performance, and raw material availability
•Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
•Service as a point of communication between purchasing, production, and finance teams to facilitate smooth operations.
Requirements of Junior SBQ Buyer
•Working knowledge of the SBQ Steel Market and its suppliers.
•Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
•5+ years of strategic purchasing and supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
•Strong action orientation and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.
•Advanced MS Office skills, Excel with experience using MRP/ERP system.
•Strong collaborator and team player.
