The IEC Engineers provide support for instrumentation, electrical, and control systems including design, programming, commissioning, and day to day troubleshooting of PLCs and HMIs.
You will work side by side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who bring vision and opportunity to the forefront. As a Tallgrass Intern, you will partner with various departments in support of multiple projects on existing assets and operations, as well as the exploration and development of new avenues and opportunities. The internship is intended to help you develop your work skills and knowledge while providing a link between your educational goals and career objectives.
- Learn about Instrumentation, Electrical, and Controls by helping the IEC team deploy and support industrial automation control systems, including PLCs and HMIs.
- Assist with projects to implement new control systems and upgrade existing infrastructure.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and gain practical experience with PLCs, instrumentation, and electrical gear.
- Establish a deep understanding of HMI applications and Python programming by helping to manage and improve a standard library of programming objects and templates deployed company wide.
- How to execute challenging and innovative Oil and Gas and Green Energy projects.
- How to play a key role assisting in the development of company standards.
- Valuable experience working alongside engineers and operations teams.
Student actively enrolled in an approved Engineering (electrical preferred) degree program with expected graduation date of December 2025 through December 2027
- Proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Passion for innovation and problem-solving, as well as a continuous drive to improve processes.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications and platforms.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/hybrid at our Lakewood office. We will host our Summer 2026 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.
- Pay Range $27.12-31.01 USD hourly
- You may be eligible for a stipend to subsidize housing costs.
- The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include overtime pay, paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
