The Locator provides accurate locates of both public and privately owned underground infrastructure for water, sewer, fibre, gas and electric utilities within the City of Kingston and Utilities Kingston service areas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide reliable and accurate public and private utility locates for contractors, internal operations, the City of Kingston and the public consistent with Utilities Kingston Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and industry best practices.
2. Provide locate field support for internal operations and external contractors.
3. Locate and confirm accuracy of provided infrastructure mapping.
4. Collect data via GPS and edit points to provide accurate updates to GIS departments of the Utility and the City of Kingston.
5. Assess excavation sites and determine whether excavations can safely proceed.
6. Make recommendations regarding the need for updated or new SOPs.
7. Perform additional duties that may be assigned that require private or pre-engineering locates.
8. Comply with all health and safety requirements, maintain a safe work environment, report hazards and promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
1. Advanced proficiency using utility locating equipment
2. Intermediate skills using Utility Locate Administration software
3. Intermediate skills using GIS mapping software
4. Intermediate proficiency using GPS survey equipment
5. Intermediate knowledge of various utility Rules, Regulations and Codes
6. Intermediate MS365 skills
7. Intermediate knowledge and skill using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
8. Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
Qualifications:
1. Previous utilities locating experience
2. Class G drivers’ licence
3. High School Diploma or equivalent
