Studsvik Scandpower is the global leader in the development and support of fuel vendor-independent reactor analysis software. We offer a full suite of licensing-grade software and engineering services to support operating utilities, fuel vendors, safety authorities, next generation reactor developers and research organizations. Our products are used throughout the world for reactor fuel and core design, analysis, and operational support.
Studsvik Scandpower (SSP) is currently seeking to hire an entry level M.S. or Ph.D. engineer (0-3 years experience) in the area of methods development to develop the advanced transient analysis 3D nodal code SIMULATE5-K. Ideal candidates will have education and/or experience in computational multi-physics methods development in reactor analysis with an emphasis on thermal hydraulics. The candidate should have experience with large computer codes developed in a project team environment. As this is a programming position, programming and debugging in Fortran is required, and experience with other programming/scripting languages is highly desired. Work history in the commercial nuclear industry and/or experience with SSP products CASMO/SIMULATE are a plus. As code developers also participate in code documentation and user training, the candidate’s oral and written English communication skills (along with programming skills) will be evaluated as part of the interview process.
This position will also provide technical support, perform troubleshooting and debugging functions, help resolve customer issues, help develop training material and participate in other product development. The responsibilities of this entry level position to join the dynamic CMS5 development team include:
- Develop multi-physics (particularly thermal hydraulics) aspects of state-of-the-art SIMULATE5-K product at the coding and methods level under the direction and guidance of the Lead Developer.
- Supporting and troubleshooting software issues related to the CMS5 code suite (CASMO5/SIMULATE5/ SIMULATE5-K).
- Participating in product development and testing of SSP products.
- Documenting processes and application instructions.
- Supporting and troubleshooting software issues.
- Participating in meetings, and other company events.
- Participating in customer visits, presentations, and software demonstrations to support business development.

- Applicants should have experience and desire to work in advanced core level methodologies with an emphasis on thermal hydraulics.
- Experience in developing sub-channel analysis methods is highly desired.
- Prior experience performing transient calculations involving reactivity-initiated accidents, rod withdrawal/drop, flow/pressurization transients, and stability analysis is highly desired.
- Deep experience with development and coding of large software projects (over a million lines of code) written in Fortran with strong software debugging skills is required.
- Experience in, and understanding of, reactor multi-physics methods in neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and fuel performance for core analysis software.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics is required.
- Excellent communication skill in the English language (both oral and written) is required.
- Experience using SSP Software (especially CASMO and SIMULATE) is preferred but not required.
- Applicants should be proactive, but able to work according to strategic direction.
