Duties & Responsibilities
The
Subsea Control System Engineeris responsible for design, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning of each offshore platform’s Subsea Production Control System within the framework of Talos Energy’s policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable regulations (PROJECTS). This position will also provide subsea control system engineering support for Talos assets in both the Shelf and Deepwater Gulf of America (OPERATIONS). The
Subsea Control System Engineersupports all subsea assets from cradle to grave. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Analyze brownfield subsea facilities and greenfield project requirements for optimal Subsea Production Control System design and operation.
- Design field layouts and subsea distribution to support new subsea facilities. Project deliverables include system bock diagrams, field schematics, P&ID(s), etc. Maintain all subsea drawing packages through life of field.
- Specify new project subsea Cause and Effects (C&E) per project, flow assurance, facility, and regulatory requirements. Ensure shutdowns are programmed, tested, and implemented per design requirements.
- Interact with operations, flow assurance, and facility stakeholders for subsea interlocks/permissives. Specify and ensure all interlocks/permissive are programmed, tested, and implemented per design requirements.
- Integrate subsea systems with the production host facility’s control and safety system.
- Ensure subsea control system Human Machine Interface (HMI) conforms to system and operational requirements.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of all subsea field failures and ensure traceability for all assets’ subsea equipment status.
- Manage and oversee control system vendor activities for capital projects and operational support.
- Interface & support Talos Production Operations and Talos Operations Readiness Team in regards to Subsea Production System operation.
- Create AFE(s), track all project costs, monitor and maintain project schedules, and provide updates on same.
- Understand, review, and approve designs, analysis, and documentation in regards to subsea production system equipment and evaluate for “fit-for-purpose” needs.
- Provide on-call support 24/7 to production assets as-required.
- Expected travel: 25 %.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science.
- 3-5 years Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience preferred.
- > 10 years of subsea control system engineering experience w/ significant time spent in Gulf of America.
- Experience and knowledge of systems, design parameters, calculations, equipment, and materials in offshore/subsea applications.
- Knowledge of 30-CFR-250, API RP 14C, API 17 series with emphasis on API 17D, API 17E, and API 17H, ISA 5.1 and ISA 101.01, and applicable ASME specifications. Expert knowledge of API 17F.
- Technical competence in subsea facilities engineering design for hydraulic power systems, chemical injection systems, electrical power systems, and communication systems.
- Technical competence in Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU), Master Control Station (MCS), and Subsea Control Module (SCM) design and operation.
- Technical competence in subsea instrumentation and valve operation.
- Able to organize and prioritize a diverse and heavy workload.
- Able to communicate and coordinate project work with other disciplines as applicable (i.e. Regulatory, Operations, Production, Drilling and Completions, Topsides, etc.).
- Communicate effectively, both orally in person, using a telephone and in writing with management, engineers, peers, contractors, regulatory personnel, etc.
- Willing to work a demanding and flexible schedule as well as monitoring offshore operations and construction activities on weekends and holidays as required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position.
- Ability to travel internationally, as-required.
- Ability to travel in order to make site visits to vendor facilities, offshore assets, and other Talos office locations, as-required.
- Ability to travel without limitation, including airplanes, helicopters, and boats.
- Ability to utilize swing ropes to access platforms offshore, as-required.
- Ability to move freely on offshore assets, including stairs, ladders, and lifting up to 50 lb, and endure extreme weather conditions and hazardous atmospheres.
