The Leaching Operator is responsible for performing day-to-day activities and maintenance related to the copper refinery department processes and to provide labor, support, and maintenance for the leaching recovery operations.
Must be able to work safely with hazardous chemicals that may require the use of a respirator. Must be able to safely operate cranes and forklifts. Must be able to stand on feet for 8–10 hour shifts and lift up to 40 pounds. Experience using blow torch or plasma cutter to re-size steel is a plus.
Perform testing of acid solutions using titration, pH meter.
Adjust solution compositions by adding the necessary chemicals under the guidance of the Department Manager.
Collect and/or filter sludge, dusts, wash waters and spent chemical solutions.
Maintain adequate records of the materials and processes.
Maintain equipment – cleaning, servicing, and general repairs.
Maintain records of material lots used in each batch.
Load and unload anodes and cathodes on the electroplating cells using overhead cranes and forklifts.
Provide labor, support, and maintenance to the Leaching Department.
Leach re-sized precious metal bearing scrap with chemicals such as acid solutions under the guidance of the Refining Manager.
Operate small electric power tools and pressure washing equipment.
Travel, as required, to global destinations to perform onsite projects (project duration ranges from one to four weeks consecutively).
Schedule: The employees assigned shift will be annotated in the Payroll System. Employees may be required to work any shift, including evening, weekend, or holiday shifts, as needed by the Company. Any modifications to the employee's schedule will be communicated by the Manager. This is a full-time position, but some overtime work may be required.
RCRA: This position will require interaction with hazardous waste. Metallix promotes a culture of safety and is committed to taking all steps necessary to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. This position requires that the following duties be carried out in accordance with state and federal safety requirements and related Metallix policies:
Handle hazardous waste at Satellite Accumulation Areas; Label hazardous waste; Transport hazardous waste to Central Accumulation Area; Inspect hazardous waste containers; Handle universal waste; and Participate in annual RCRA hazardous waste training.
Be a “U.S. person” pursuant to section 120.15 of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
High school diploma or five years of comparable industry experience required.
Ability to work flexible schedules, occasional travel, and mandatory department overtime as needed.
Knowledge of health and safety programs in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
