About This Job
Pipefitters build, maintain and repair pipes that carry liquids or gases for plumbing, heating and mechanical systems. The work requires physical effort to bend, stoop or kneel; use tools such as pipe wrenches; and work at heights or in confined spaces.
Responsibilities:
•Use hand-held power tools to cut, drill, or shape materials to size.
•Connect pipes or hoses using a variety of techniques.
•Measure, mark out and cut pipes and other materials using a variety of tools (hacksaws, routers etc.).
•Tighten fittings and fixtures by hand, with wrenches and with pneumatic or electric tools.
•Fit and assemble pipe systems by joining them together with couplings and fasteners (bolts, flanges etc.).
•Apply protective coatings or linings to surfaces for protection against water and chemicals.
•Install components for water supply systems (pumps, valves etc.) and sanitary sewers (pipes, fittings etc.).
•Create drawings of pipe projects using computer-aided drafting software.
