Summary
The Crane Operator plays a critical role in handling the large steel coils in rows within the warehouse and production environments. This position requires the operator to be highly skilled and certified in crane operation, with a thorough understanding of safety and quality policies related to crane usage. The crane operator is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe handling of materials in the receiving area, working with the crane to move coils, and maintaining compliance with all operational and safety standards.
· Master Coil Handling: Primarily work in the large steel coil rows, ensuring the efficient and safe movement, loading, and unloading of master coils within the warehouse and production area.
· Crane Operation: Operate the overhead crane in a competent and safe manner to handle heavy materials, in accordance with company and safety standards.
· Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear to maintain a safe work environment.
· Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and functions according to safety standards.
· Quality Control: Ensure that all coils are handled properly to avoid damage during the receiving, moving or loading processes, maintaining high standards of quality.
· Material Management: Work closely with other warehouse and receiving team members to ensure timely and accurate handling of materials, keeping track of inventory and locations of coils within the coil rows.
· Routine Equipment Inspections: Perform regular checks and maintenance on the crane to ensure it is in good working order. Report any issues or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
· Documentation and Reporting: Accurately complete any required documentation, including receiving logs, inspection reports, and inventory records.
· Collaboration: Work with other team members and departments to ensure smooth workflow and efficient material handling throughout the warehouse or production area.
· Certification and proven experience in crane operation (required).
· Strong knowledge of safety and quality procedures related to crane operation.
· Previous experience in a warehouse, receiving, or material handling role, particularly with heavy materials like steel coils, is preferred.
· Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
· Understanding of basic hand tools including a torch and other steel cutting tools.
· Ability to operate cranes and handle heavy materials.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks as needed.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Ability to stand for long periods, operate heavy machinery, and perform manual tasks in a factory setting.
· Properly wear PPE and handle machinery safely.
