Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Position Overview
The Buyer plays a critical role in managing the daily procurement of goods, services, and materials essential for New Gold’s operations. This position ensures that purchasing activities are aligned with organizational requirements, budgets, and timelines, contributing to the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of operations. The Buyer is responsible for sourcing suppliers, negotiating quotes, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring that all materials and services are procured and delivered on time and at the best possible cost. This role will have a direct impact on the costs and profitability of New Gold Inc.’s Rainy River mine location.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, audit, and prioritize purchase requisitions to ensure that specifications, budgets, and delivery deadlines are clearly defined and met. Ensure that procurement activities support the strategic goals and operational needs of the organization.
- Conduct comprehensive research to identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on criteria such as reliability, pricing, quality, specifications, delivery options, and terms and conditions. Establish strong relationships with a diverse range of suppliers to ensure competitive and sustainable supply chains.
- Continuously monitor market trends, including pricing fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, for key commodities. Provide insights and recommendations based on market intelligence that could impact the procurement strategy and operational costs.
- Create and manage purchase orders in ERP systems (e.g., SAP). Track and expedite orders, resolve overdue deliveries, and ensure compliance with terms. Maintain accurate records of transactions and vendor communications.
- Act as liaison between suppliers, internal departments, and end users. Assist with vendor setup and maintenance in procurement systems. Develop and maintain relationships with both internal customers and external suppliers.
- Complete spend and market analysis on key commodities and identify site contract opportunities. Arranging transport of goods and tracking orders to ensure timely delivery. Understanding the target market and analyzing trends to make informed buying decisions.
- Coordinate with inventory team, management, and stockroom. Monitor the stock quality and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management. Prepare procurement reports and assist with contract administration.
- Reconcile shipping and payment documents and resolve billing issues.
- Other duties to support the team as required to ensure the Rainy River Procurement Teams success.
- Three years previous experience purchasing in an industrial environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of Supply Chain operations, contract management, and sourcing within the supply operations of a large resource company.
- Procurement or Supply Chain certification. Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field would be an asset.
- Excellent mathematical and evaluation skills are required with strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills
- Knowledge and experience using SAP / Ariba would be a strong asset.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft office and high level of competency in Excel spread sheet creation.
- Ability to work under pressure and produce high quality work within time constraints.
- Good judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated success in building trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the local community, indigenous groups, employees, colleagues, and service providers/contractors
