Diesel Mechanic Assistant – Scrap Yard
Location: 956 Bluff City Blvd Elgin IL 60120 Pay Range: $20–$25 per hour (based on experience) Job Type: Full-Time
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic Assistant to support our Lead Mechanic in performing maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and heavy equipment at a busy scrap yard. This position requires hands-on experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
Responsibilities:
•
Assist the Lead Mechanic with inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs of diesel vehicles and equipment.
•
Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs under supervision.
•
Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and organized condition.
•
Follow safety protocols and company procedures at all times.
•
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications:
•
Minimum of work or similar role.
•
Must be bilingual (English and Spanish). Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to take direction.
•
Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy equipment preferred.
