Position Title: Street Light Tech, Lead

The Lead Street Light Technician is responsible for ensuring safety standards for his crew and working closely with the safety manager to set standards and guidelines to create a safety program for all employees. Safety should be the number one priority of any Lead Street Light Technician as he or she is entrusted with the safety of each employee that he directly supervises. The Lead Street Light Technician will be responsible for daily job briefings and ensuring that all crew members are well versed on the coming day’s business so they are prepared for any and all potential hazards. A new job briefing should be completed when the scope of work changes. It is the Lead Street Light Technician’s responsibility to report all incidents/accidents to the safety specialist as soon as possible. It is the Lead Street Light Technician’s responsibility to recognize areas for potential improvement and to report any “near miss” events in order for the crew members to learn from those events with the goal of preventing future accidents
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Direct the work of street light technicians.
•Skills, Knowledge and ability to make wire connections, both low and High Voltage with a Journeyman Lineman to confirm the process.
•Skills, Knowledge and ability to excavate ditches safely, operate all heavy equipment as well as bucket trucks and digger derricks
•Skills, Knowledge and ability to perform energized lines (“hot work”) as needed with confirmation from Journeyman Lineman
•Skills, knowledge and ability to read maps and technical drawings
•Ensures regular maintenance and repairs are carried out on equipment and trucks
•Must maintain a Class B CDL (minimum)
•Must report all incidents, safety violations and near misses to the safety team and supervisor. Must follow customer’s policies for notifying the customer’s team for any outages or incidents as well
•Must have skills, knowledge and ability to work in the clearance zone.
•Must have the skills, knowledge and ability to be a Qualified Observer and follow the safety policy for qualified observers.
•Exhibit excellent communication skills with supervisor, customer and employees.
•Must work outdoors and in all weather conditions
Success Factors:
•Knowledge of: The methods, materials, and equipment used in the lineman trade
•Knowledge of Electrical Theory and Practices
•Knowledge of Safety Rules of the trade including American Public Power Association (APPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.269
•Knowledge of State Safety Rules
•Experience with Principles and Practices of Lead Employee Supervision
•Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)
•Must have ability for frequent travel on needed training requirements and potential for overtime including storm work.
Experience and Education:
•One to Two (1-2) years of relevant Experience or equivalent hours
•Ability with Climbing poles and working at heights.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is required.
•Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
•Possesses sight, strength and coordination necessary to safely and effectively operate heavy and light equipment and tools.
•Duties entail full-body exertion, strenuous lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
