Babcock & Wilcox is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Manager to lead the QA function at our Copley, Ohio facility. The QA Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all products, in both our ASME Code shop (pressure parts) and non-Code shop, meet both internal quality standards, customer requirements and external regulatory requirements, including compliance with ASME Sections I, V, VIII, IX and NBIC in our pressure part shop.
This role is critical in maintaining B&W’s certifications, assisting Global Quality in managing internal and external audits, and upholding the integrity of key components such as pulverizers, pressure parts, burners, and environmental systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to continuous improvement in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
ASME-Specific Duties•Oversee and maintain compliance with ASME code requirements, including WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications, etc.
•Serve as the primary liaison with Authorized Inspectors (AI) for ASME Code jobs.
•Maintain and update ASME Quality Control Manual and ensure adherence across departments.
•Ensure traceability of materials and welds through proper documentation and shop traveler systems.
•Supports B&W certification audits, including those for ISO and ASME standards
General QA Responsibilities
•Develop, implement, and monitor quality control systems and procedures.
•Lead internal audits and manage corrective actions and non-conformances.
•Analyze production data and quality metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
•Collaborate with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues.
•Ensure calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and testing equipment.
•Monitor production processes and perform regular inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards
•Train employees on quality standards and best practices.
•Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and safety regulations related to quality processes
•Associate’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
•Minimum 5 years of QA experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in an ASME-certified shop.
•In-depth knowledge of ASME BPVC Sections I, IV, VIII, and AWS D1.1 welding codes.
•Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and weld symbols.
•Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
•Familiarity with ISO 9001, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
•Technical knowledge of industrial boilers and related balance of plant equipment.
•Must be able to read and interpret complex drawings.
•Must be able to read measuring tools. (Exp: measuring tape, micrometer, calipers and dial indicator)
•Confident independent decision-making skills.
•Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
•Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, including welding and fit up.
•Familiar with ASME, AWS, and ISO codes.
•Ability to read, write, and understand contract language, contract drawings, and contract specifications.
•Organized and detail oriented.
•Able to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities.
•Positive presence and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Must be able to work in accordance with B&W customer and supplier schedules which may include weekends/after hours.
•The ability to perform occasional inspections at local suppliers
