About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Lead, Regional Air and Climate Action, the Lead, Climate Change’s primary function is to manage EVR’s company-wide climate change-related management processes and practices, with key accountabilities tied to the tracking and reporting of EVR’s climate change performance for determining carbon tax payments (>$50 million annually across EVR) and measuring progress against climate targets.
Managing EVR’s climate change management practices involves facilitating the collection of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions information across all applicable EVR locations per defined internal and external reporting schedules. This includes managing the data and data applications within which this information is gathered and stored, and reporting climate data externally. The role collaborates with those involved in related reporting, finance, business planning, decarbonization, logistics, marketing, and other groups across the organization to ensure that climate change data is utilized to drive value for the business.
This position is also responsible for revising EVR’s climate change-related management processes and practices to meet requirements outlined by Glencore’s Energy and Climate Change standard. This includes leading climate risk assessments, developing a climate management plan, and conducting climate baseline assessments. This position manages the external assurance providers necessary for all EVR assets to complete compliance reporting under provincial and federal greenhouse gas reporting programs. This position is the relationship holder with the BC Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions.

- Lead annual provincial carbon tax reporting and assurance (> $50M obligation across four sites)
- Ensure emissions data accuracy and deliver compliant reports; update GHG program per regulatory changes
- Oversee climate data systems and manage external verification, including site visits
- Implement Glencore’s climate standards through action plans, risk assessments, and baseline evaluations
- Develop and assure Scope 3 emissions inventory; represent EVR in Glencore’s Scope 3 project
- Monitor and analyze carbon-related regulations and communicate impacts to operations
- Contribute to internal and external climate policy development, including carbon pricing
- Report energy and GHG performance to senior management, regulators, and stakeholders
- Serve as GHG emissions calculation expert; manage methodology updates and internal communication
- Improve reporting efficiency through enhanced data collection and tools
- Act as primary contact for energy and carbon data management and regulatory expertise
- Supervise and mentor staff; provide updates to leadership and site management
- Educate and support environmental teams; onboard new air leads; address climate-related inquiries
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on carbon tax and climate policy matters
- Support business planning and manage operating costs, budgeting, and contractor tracking
- Manage contracts with external verifiers, including selection and accountability
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a similar discipline
- 7+ years of relevant technical experience in progressive senior roles providing technical leadership on regulatory and environmental issues- Minimum of 5 years working experience with direct knowledge of energy and greenhouse gas management in heavy industry, preferably mining
- Formal education or equivalent experience in greenhouse gas, life cycle assessment, and scope 3 accounting practices
- Working knowledge of regulatory systems/approaches for the management of energy and greenhouse gases and an understanding of the effect these systems/approaches have on industry
- Ability to present complex climate topics to business stakeholders with varying subject knowledge
- Experience interacting with regulators
- Proven skills in effectively interpreting energy and climate change related regulations and advancing management strategies to ensure regulatory compliance
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
Salary $ 99,440 / year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
