The Regional Safety manager is a person of action and takes a hands-on approach providing strategic safety and risk leadership across multiple sites. The successful candidate for this position will split their time in both an office (30%) and outside/warehouse environments (70%). This hands-on role leads, motivates, and fosters a safety-conscious culture to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment through regular interaction with, and oversight of, our safety-sensitive colleagues. The Regional Safety Manager partners with managers and colleagues at all locations to ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, champions a “behavioral based” safety culture that supports business growth and goals in a safe and compliant manner, and by ensuring that each colleague in the Regional Safety Manager’s region has the resources and support needed to be safe every day.
This position could be in any of the following locations: Lebanon, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, Shelton, CT, New Castle, DE, Richmond, VA, Macon, GA, Statesville, NC or Troutman, NC.
- Champions and promotes a strong regional safety and compliance culture, implementing programs across multiple locations to ensure associate safety and regulatory compliance.
- Primarily responsible for Safety Program at the following locations: Lebanon, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, Shelton, CT, New Castle, DE, Elkridge, MD, Manassas, VA, Richmond, VA, Chesapeake, VA, Lynchburg, VA, Statesville, NC, Troutman, NC, Macon, GA, Knoxville, TN, Loudon, TN. Secondary responsibilities, when necessary, travel to other regions to perform site audits, instruct training, and investigate incidents.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and boot on the ground assistance to site-level safety teams, ensuring consistency and alignment of safety practices across all assigned locations.
- Leads and oversees the investigation of incidents region-wide, ensuring timely documentation, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and preparation of materials for claims.
- Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the regional safety management program, including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management initiatives. Works with Director of Insurance and Risk Management as needed.
- Coordinates and facilitates regional safety meetings, safety committee meetings, and safety audits, ensuring follow-up and corrective actions are completed at each site.
- Develops, delivers, and oversees safety training programs across the region, including safety presentations, skills training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, and the use of protective equipment.
- Ensures accurate and timely regional safety recordkeeping in KPA-Flex, including investigations, reporting of near misses and incidents, training records, and acknowledgements.
- Monitors and enforces compliance with Daily Equipment Inspections across all sites, providing support and corrective guidance when necessary.
- Exercises authority to stop operations and activities that could endanger staff, equipment, or facilities at any regional site.
- Shares environmental and safety compliance updates with leadership and appropriate levels within the organization across the region.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules across multiple jurisdictions; including, but not limited to, OSHA and FMCSA (DOT) regulations.
- Represents the company on regional safety and compliance matters with government and regulatory entities.
- Travels regularly within the region to provide on-site support, training, audits, and oversight.

- Bachelor’s degree required. In lieu of degree, consideration for up to 4 years of additional related experience may be accepted.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.
- OSHA 30 hour certification preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of related safety experience. Steel/ metal distribution industry experience preferred.
- Familiarity with forklist and overhead crane operation prior authorization/certificate preferred.
- Proficiency with KPA-Flex preferred.
- Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication, listening and presentation skills including the ability to effectively present and discuss technical information and respond to questions from employees, government agency representatives, and customers.
- Ability to travel 40% of the time within the CT-NJ-DE-VA-NC-GA area.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, eagerness to learn company safety policies.
- CPR, AED, First Aid/Responder Training
- Ability to conduct training.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
