The truck driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently driving large commercial vehicles and may require extended hours to pick-up/deliver loads. All safety regulations and standards regarding size, weight, and break periods must be followed. The truck driver will also be responsible for receiving cargo, parking in appropriate places, tracking mileage, and documenting schedules, delivery confirmations, and maintaining logs/records as needed.
- Proficient at driving, maneuvering, and parking large vehicles. Maneuvers truck and cargo into a variety of parking spaces and loading situations including rough terrains.
- Practices safe and DOT Compliant, driving habits. Follows all state and national safety large truck regulations and standards.
- Completes documentation for mileage, fuel, and toll expenses, maintains log books as required by DOT.
- Supervises loading and unloading of cargo off truck. Ensures cargo is secured at all times.
- Accurately follow maps and directions for time efficient routes.
- Assists with truck preparation to assure that any tools, materials, supplies, and equipment have been included for the day's delivery activity. Assists to ensure all material, equipment and supplies are properly secured before truck is moved. Confirms loads match shipping requirements.
- Maintains/inspects vehicle equipment to ensure safety. Ensures assigned truck assigned is cleaned out at the end of the day of all trash and non-essential materials.
- Inspects truck daily (pre-trip inspections) for damage or maintenance problems (tire wear, dents, etc.) Visually checks tires and other pre-trip inspection items to ensure there are no problems before leaving lot. Refuels vehicle and checks oil and other fluids as needed. Cleans windows, windshields, and mirrors as needed. Keeps interior of vehicle clean of debris and clutter.
- Alerts Mechanic of problems with truck. Assures that truck related equipment in need of repair has been reported and listed for maintenance.
- Reports any accidents or vehicle issues encountered while driving, to management.
- Maintains good attendance, on-time and Is dependable and conscientious regarding position and the responsibilities of the truck driver. Provides proper notification when absence or tardiness is unavoidable.
- Able to work some weekends, extended hours, and holidays and/or as needed
- Follows all safety rules and company policies and wears PPE appropriate for the work being conducted.
- Reports free time to the Supervisor or Manager and asks for additional assignments.
- Operates machinery/vehicles/equipment as qualified. (Stump Grinders, Wood Chippers, Chainsaws, Vehicles, Trucks, etc.)
- Ensure gates and buildings are locked at end of each day (if you are the last employee to leave).
- In conjunction with the company management, shares ideas to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, cost control and safety for this job and associated responsibilities.
- Seeks guidance and direction where needed in the performance of responsibilities and duties.
- Assists and trains others as needed on work methods and other work related skills as needed or requested.
- Assists in snow removal operations or yard duties as needed.

Work is performed at in a truck, outdoor job-sites, in the company yard and buildings. The position requires travel to customer/vendor sites with related exposure to routine hazards such as moving machinery, vehicles, and severe weather conditions. Some prolonged travel and overnight stays may be required. Subject to odors, fumes and substances typically associated with truck operations and from other gasoline/diesel fuel equipment use. Subject to varied workloads and must possess ability to work in a busy environment. Must be able to remain calm in emergencies to prevent injuries, maintain safety and assist as needed. Position is considered minimally stressful on an occasional basis.
High school diploma or GED equivalent certification; additional truck driving school certification or education a plus
A Driver’s License in good standing and Class A CDL is required. Must have a clean driving record with no recent moving violations.
3 years of driving experience, preferably in heavy truck operation such as tree service or logging or related work.
