As the Government & Stakeholder Relations Advisor, the successful candidate will join Elexicon Energy’s Stakeholder Relations Team and will play a key role in our day-to-day operations, projects and initiatives that will support our vision of empowering the communities we serve and helping customers seize opportunities to ignite a better future. This is an exciting time to join this growing team as we develop the engagement and communications strategies that build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders that shape the communities we serve. The Government & Stakeholder Relations Advisor will help enhance Elexicon’s reputation and foster strong, collaborative relationships with multiple levels of government and other external stakeholders, while monitoring and influencing policies that impact our customers and communities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Manager, Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs, this role will support the team with executing the stakeholder engagement strategy and analyze and monitor the implementation of national and provincial energy policies, regulations and laws.
- Synthesizes complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products such as reviews of briefing notes, policy positions, presentations, backgrounders, whitepapers, microsites, research articles and other correspondence to support stakeholder relations initiatives.
- Maintain records of engagement and policy activities, including tracking action items arising.
- Build network of municipal and/or provincial contacts, as well as with industry associations, to ensure two-way communication, including technical advice on the implications of, and recommended response to, new and emerging policy/legislative/regulatory issues.
- Support Manager in the development and execution of advocacy and engagement related initiatives.
- Prepares and delivers presentations and represents Elexicon Energy at local, provincial, federal and international meetings and conferences.
- Support crisis communications planning and response for critical issues as well as major outage situations
- Draft content for news releases, internal memos, speeches, newsletters, web content, and social media posts as required
- Enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude and always ready to work proactively and as a team.
- Understands the attitudes and concerns of customers, communities, media and government, especially in an industry with a high degree of scrutiny and in a public service environment.
- Experience working with various levels of government to build strong relationships.
- Experience in informing policy development and using research methods and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences.
- Strong facilitation, project management, partnership/collaboration, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Competence in using Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook programs and reference management software.
- Ability to travel, as required.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, policy, public affairs, political sciences, international relations, environmental, social, or media sciences is a plus.
- Experience in government relations. Experience in corporate communications and/or experience working at a level of government (provincial/municipal) would be an asset.
- Possesses strong interest in relationship building and communicating complex ideas in ways that build trust and drive action.
