Job Description

esVolta seeks motivated and energetic candidates to join our team as a Performance Engineer to support the performance optimization and contractual reporting for operational battery energy storage assets throughout the USA.

The Performance Engineer will conduct performance analysis and data interpretation to ensure contractual adherence for GWh of BESS assets, providing expertise to maximize asset performance while optimizing asset value. This position is responsible for ensuring improvement of systems, tools, and being a resource regarding emerging operational best practices with a critical thinking mindset and ability to investigate issues and perform data analysis to provide resolutions.

Key Responsibilities

•

Own the operational performance engineering and reporting for esVolta’s deployed BESS, focusing on system performance improvement

•

Evaluate asset performance against contractual commitments during execution and operation phases and create baseline reports

•

Support the development of technical performance contract language for EPC agreements

•

Generate actionable insights from performance data using data mining and statistical analysis techniques on large datasets via Python scripts

•

Conduct computationally efficient exploratory data analysis, anomaly detection, and projection methodologies

•

Develop systems to automatically detect performance degradations and correlate them to specific causes and improvements

•

Create systems for automatic reporting of Energy Storage health and deploy interventions based on management by exception criteria

•

Collaborate with Operations Engineering to identify and resolve technical issues, working closely with the Asset Management Team and equipment suppliers to address system deficiencies or malfunctions

•

In collaboration with cross functional teams (Operations, Commercial Operations & IT) Develop architecture schemes and facilitate delivery of physical asset data to various cloud-based environments via custom ETL pipelines

Quality Assurance

•

Consolidate energy production and financial model inputs and analysis to support performance-related aspects of power purchase agreements, EPC contracts, interconnection agreements, and equipment warranties

•

Validate performance against base case financial assumptions

•

Review technical documents and acceptance test results, comparing them to contractual standards

Safety

•

Assist with incident analysis as required

•

Create and assist in the generation of FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and HMA (Hazard Mitigation Analysis)

Skills And Qualifications

•

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in energy storage

•

ABET accredited bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering and/or data science. Professional Engineering status preferred

•

Highly proficient in Python and SQL and familiarity with, C++, Power BI, Pentaho, Plateau, etc

•

Experience working with Cloud computing services and databases

•

Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and data mining techniques such as regression, multilevel regression, forecasting, decision trees, etc

•

Experience working with large quantities of data to develop models that can be utilized and deployed at scale with live data

•

Proficient at breaking down goals into tangible and actionable work plans

•

Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal

•

Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties during stressful situations, and executive level reporting that ensures timely action and decision making in time-pressured scenarios

•

Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as required - estimated 15%.

•

Demonstrate strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem solving, organizational and leadership skills.

Compensation And Benefits

The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Salary: $160,000Bonus: 25%

Location

This position is classified as remote; however, periodic travel to company offices, project sites, or other meeting locations may be required on an as-needed basis.
