Responsibilities include managing all aspects of bulk handling operations; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems and responsible for safe and efficient movement of bulk cargoes operations.
•Follow Kinder Morgan Inc. and customer, policies, procedures, safety rules, and federal and state laws.
•Manages all types of bulk handling operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
•Understands and can communicate knowledge to others pertaining to bulk material handling operations.
•Trains and develops subordinates in handling operations.
•Creates weekly Flash to management. This is the months expected expenditures forecasted weekly.
•Establish and maintain necessary crew/work schedules to meet the customer needs while maintaining control of the established budget.
•Tracks and directs train movements – responsible for the Ordering/Release of trains so not to incur demurrage.
•Job Postings – must create and follow through to completion on the hiring of employees.
•Job Progression – KM has a job progression program for the advancement of the employees. It is your responsibility to manage this and to present it at company set times.
•Stays abreast of changes in working conditions or new technology that could increase the safety and efficiency of the operations employees.
•Initiates and supports improvement plans for employees to succeed in their efforts to achieve the goals of the department.
•Develop, maintain and assure that an accurate and timely reporting process is in place for reporting time/wages to the payroll department.
•Organizes and maintains an accurate record keeping process for site operations.
•Confers as focal point with other supervisors in organization to coordinate activities of individual departments.
•Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of conveyor machinery, cranes and heavy equipment.
•Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
•Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing of bulk material handling equipment/machinery.
•Requisitions and control spare parts inventory.
•Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
•Work directly with customers on the scheduling of Trains/Trucks.
•Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations, company policies/procedures and work rules.
•Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
•Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
•Recommends measures to improve petroleum coke handling methods, equipment performance, and quality of product handling.
•Has understanding and grasp of environmental impact of petroleum coke handling operations.
•Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department and/or work crew.
•Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work issues/problems.
•Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
•Takes lead in assuring performance of daily maintenance and troubleshooting conveyor, heavy equipment, rail cars, crane problems and directs repairs.
•Maintains inspection, time and production records.
•Responsible for the purchasing and reconciliation of supplies/spare parts on the Kinder Morgan P Card system.
•Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
•Work directly with the Kinder Morgan Employee Health and Safety personnel for the Home Land Security Port & Vessel Securities Act.
•Organizes and documents site operations.
•Inspect, direct and maintain the properties either owned or leased by Kinder Morgan.
•Monitor spare parts for all equipment either owned or maintained by Kinder Morgan.
•Must be willing to carry company issued pager and/or cellular telephone/radio and be on-call for work as may be required, assigned and scheduled.
•As required, performs activities of co-workers.
•Must be willing to work overtime hours during the week and/or weekends as dictated by operations. In order to appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
Position Requirements
•Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Must have at least 3 years management experience
•Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.
•Must possess understanding of bulk handling operations/equipment.
•Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Office Suite general products.
•Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
•Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders.
•Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing small projects and see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality as necessary.
•Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.
•Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the Petcoke business segment, associated business units.
•Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules.
•Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge/understanding of bulk materials handling. Must have the ability to communicate this knowledge/understanding.
