Terrestrial Energy is developing for near-term commercial operation, a zero-emissions cogeneration plant for a global industry using its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) fission technology in an innovative, small and modular plant design.

In pursuit of this objective, Terrestrial Energy initiated a transaction to legally redomicile the business to the US in 2023, which it completed in April 2024, with 100% shareholder support. This transaction was the first step in its US domiciliation strategy. The Company is currently completing a transaction to secure a US exchange (NASDAQ) public stock listing, which is expected to secure the capital resources necessary to complete its US domiciliation as well as execute on its business plan focused on the US market.


The Company is focused on building a team of business professionals and leaders in the engineering, R&D, product management and business development areas out of our Charlotte, North Carolina location. These key resources will help build the organization structure and processes in Charlotte, NC, which will be the cornerstone to add talented people to the US team, each of whom will:


Offer US market experience and perspectives bringing innovative approaches to problem solving and business plan execution.

Has a deep understanding of the requirements for advanced reactor development.
Assist in the creation of the organization architecture and structures based in Charlotte and necessary for the successful design development of the Company IMSR plant.

Has skillset and experience that relate to the following role:


The Stress Analyst, under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, is primarily responsible for stress analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculations for nuclear systems/structures/components through Engineering Design. Other responsibilities include:

Prepare stress analysis calculations, analyses and assessment documents for piping, pressure vessels, and in-core components, including thermal, fatigue, creep, dynamic and static, linear and non-linear analysis, incorporating feedback from senior team members.
Prepare clear and concise technical reports documenting analyses where required.
Assess structural integrity risks and optimize mechanical design and performance using FEA results.
Communicate and work with various technical disciplines to understand interfacing system design(s) and interfacing requirements as well as system/component loading (thermal, pressure, hydrostatic, deadweight, and seismic).
Coordinate and interface with the plant layout lead in the development of 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for the responsible mechanical components.
Contribute to timely resolution of mechanical design challenges and address risks, escalating technical issues as needed.
Demonstrated ability to work with teams on problems that are challenging to solve and requiring innovative solutions.
Conduct presentations to interdisciplinary teams and external parties.
Interface with external vendors, experts and design agencies.

Requirements

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering,

Nuclear Engineering or alternate degree in a related field

Minimum 2 years of work experience in mechanical and thermal stress analysis using FEA software
Experience with ANSYS Mechanical, Creo Parametric, or other 3D modelling and FEA software
Experience with computer programming (Python, Matlab, C, C++, Fortran, or other) for data pre/post processing or automation/customization of simulations in commercial software
Strong understanding of solid mechanics / underlying material science
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
Willingness to adapt and learn new approaches and areas of expertise
Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills

Skilled at developing and maintaining strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors



Assets

Knowledge of nuclear and/or non-nuclear pressure boundary codes including ASME Section III Division 1, ASME Section III Division 5, CSA N285.0 and ASME B31.1, CSA B51

Graduate-level degree (Master’s or PhD) with an applicable specialization
Industry experience in design of mechanical systems and components
Experience with analysis of non-metallic materials (particularly graphite core components)
Experience with fatigue, creep, dynamic and static, linear and non-linear analyses
Working knowledge of the effects of radiation on materials
Experience with pressure vessel design and registration process (TSSA, CNSC)
