To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a

Senior P&C Field Technician

to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our

Senior P&C Field Technician

perform testing and routine maintenance on transmission/distribution power equipment, relaying (electromechanical, solid state and micro-processor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps, etc.), and controls and communications equipment.

Preferred Locations:

Georgia and nearby states.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of testing on the protection and control relays, including reading and verifying voltage and current inputs, verifying local and SCADA metering, relay calibration, trip testing, and verifying all alarms (local and SCADA and function switches.
Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment. Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps, etc.), control, and communications equipment.
Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions and according to client and company safety procedures and standards.
Provide support to appropriate field service personnel.
Learn and apply the test procedure for various types of substation equipment.
Communicate effectively with diverse groups.
Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications.
Perform regular field work indoors and outdoors.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Possess a high school diploma or GED.
Hold an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution (preferred).
Bring 8+ years of experience in commissioning, panel/equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and substation relaying/control scheme repair.
Offer 5+ years of leadership in project execution, system integration, and relay settings coordination.
Demonstrate preferred experience in substation design (including P&C engineering), construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.
Maintain working knowledge of three-phase power systems, protection and control schemes, test equipment, and related software.
Understand tool usage and wiring techniques, supported by hands-on test equipment knowledge.
Interpret wiring and elementary diagrams with accuracy and clarity.
Excel at working independently with minimal supervision.
Effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) proficiently for documentation and communication.


Other Requirements

The primary office location is based on the job location.
Up to 50% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. (Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.)
Must complete annual safety training to remain compliant with company policies and safety regulations. Training may occasionally require travel outside the employee’s assigned state or region.
Valid and current Driver’s license and good driving record.

Working Conditions

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call-outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces, adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
